Sometimes it pays to think small. Qingdao Nama Industrial Co. Ltd, manufacturer of the Nama tyre brand, has found a niche market on the lower end of the rim diameter scale. Tyres & Accessories spoke with company chief executive officer William Liu at CITExpo, and Liu showed off several diminutive products (the smallest had just a 10-inch rim diameter!) including a product aimed at the European market.

NTDA reaffirms support for 3mm campaign
The NTDA reports that it remains “firmly committed to its 3mm Tread Safety campaign, an initiative designed to raise awareness among motorists of the importance of changing tyres when they reach a 3mm tread depth rather than the lower, legal limit of 1.6mm, which was launched in partnership with Roadsafe in 2005.” The NTDA statement follows comments made by well-known manufacturer Michelin at the end of September in opposition to 3mm tread depth tyre change philosophies.

The Proxes R888R road and track tyre, which was launched in the UK at the start of last year, is now available on the other side of The Pond. Toyo Tire U.S.A. has released the Proxes R888R as an evolution of its Proxes R888 and states the tyre will deliver “even faster lap times and better dry handling.” With a tread wear rating of 100 AA A, the Proxes R888R is available in the US in a full range of sizes to fit 13- up to 20-inch diameter wheels, with additional sizes to be released through summer 2017.

Marcotran: Goodyear best tyre choice
Spanish haulier Marcotran says Goodyear Fuelmax and Kmax truck tyre have made demonstrable savings on its fleet. Comparative tests run by the company show that on certain routes it can save almost 1,000 euros per vehicle per year by using Fuelmax tyres, and the high mileage offered by Kmax tyres makes them more economical on other routes. Marcotran is a Spanish based international freight company. Its pan-European fleet comprises about 700 trucks and 1,200 trailers, with routes varying from mundane regional runs to the longest between Spain to Moscow.

Hankook intensifying cooperation with Schmitz Cargobull
Schmitz Cargobull trailers have rolled out the factory on Hankook-supplied tyres since 2013, and the two companies began collaborating in full-service business early last year after signing a further agreement covering the European market. During the IAA Commercial Vehicles show in Germany last month, Hankook Tire and Schmitz Cargobull signed a new agreement that extends their cooperation until 2019.
