Goodyear launches Dębica Presto UHP2
Following on from the release of new summer UHP products for its Fulda and Sava brands, Goodyear has introduced a UHP tyre range for its Poland-based brand, Dębica. The tyre maker states that the new Presto UHP2 offers greater mileage than the previous-generation tyre thanks to the use of a ‘Uniform Contact Pressure’ design, which distributes pressure over the whole tread contact area and thus spreads wear more evenly. Rolling resistance has also improved through the use of an optimised rolling resistance chafer that controls energy dissipation via the tyre’s rim.

The all-new Toyota Yaris, or Vitz as it is known in Japan, will come equipped with Yokohama tyres in Japan, Australia and New Zealand. Yokohama Rubber shares that three of its tyres, the Yokohama db E70 in size 195/50R16 84V, BluEarth E70 in size 175/70R14 84S and S73 in size 165/70R14 81S, have been approved for the car, which was launched on 12 January.

The unworthy have already been weeded out, and now Auto Bild has given the remaining 20 tyres from the original 52 candidates in its 2017 summer test a thorough going over. The size 225/50 R17 tyres were fitted to a BMW 320d for evaluation in a range of disciplines not covered in the preliminary round, including aquaplaning, rolling resistance, mileage and noise. Victory went to the top-ranked rubber from the initial test, the Continental PremiumContact 6.

Have you ever gazed at your car’s tyres and thought “they’re just too black for my liking”? If your answer is yes, Pirelli has something you may be interested in. The company has brought a new tyre to the 2017 Geneva Motor Show, and it features sidewall colouring similar to that seen on Pirelli’s Formula 1 tyres. This new Pirelli coloured edition is an add-on to the P Zero and Winter Sottozero ranges, and utilises materials that ensure the colour remains vivid throughout the tyre’s life. Pirelli says coloured edition tyres can be obtained in any colour the customer wants.

Tyres are black and round, but a shared shape and colour doesn’t mean all tyres perform the same. This truth was readily apparent in this year’s summer tyre test from Auto Bild Sportscars. The German magazine for sport and performance car fans evaluated nine size 235/35 R19 tyres. One of its aims in doing so was to reveal “dangerous beguilers” amongst the many models on the market today. What it found amongst the tested tyres was performance ranging from ‘exemplary’ to ‘not recommended’.

Falken will roll out the tyre with an exclusive Toyota Germany partnership in April.
