Cooper Tire Europe has launched the all-new Discoverer S/TMAXX POR (Professional Off Road), a tyre it says was designed for 4x4 driving in extreme conditions. The Discoverer S/TMAXX POR improves upon the Discoverer S/TMAXX with the addition of a cut and chip-resistant tread compound.

Giti prepares for winter with GitiWinterW1
While Giti Tire presented the first six patterns for its Giti brand truck and bus tyre range at this year’s CV Show and intends for these products to replace the GT Radial commercial range in Europe, the company has yet to announce when it will launch its flagship brand into the UK consumer tyre market. Germany remains the only European market to have received the Giti car and SUV tyre range to-date, and this means we won’t be seeing the newest winter product, the GitiWinterW1, over here – at least for the time being.

Cooper launches Discoverer Winter SUV tyre
Cooper Tire & Rubber Company Europe has launched the new Discoverer Winter tyre for mid-to-full-size SUVs. Designed at Cooper’s European Technical Centre, the tyre is manufactured at Melksham in the UK and developed using Cooper’s 4x4 and off-road expertise. The company added that it has been tested extensively in a range of winter conditions, including snow acceleration and braking, snow handling, ice braking and acceleration at Arctic Falls in Sweden and Test World in Finland.

According to Trelleborg, its Mitas business is now making “concentrated preparations” towards penetrating the radial sport touring tyre segment with a “new concept in radial tyres.” It hasn’t revealed the name of the tyre developed by the Mitas/Trelleborg facility in Kranj, Slovenia, however it says the tyre is intended for use on heavier sport motorcycles that can carry two people and luggage over longer distances.

In a comparative evaluation of five slick track tyres, Performance Bikes magazine (September 2017) has rated the latest Dunlop GP Racer D212 its top choice. John McAvoy and Chris Walker tested the Dunlop rubber together with the Continental Track Slick, Metzeler Racetec RR Slick, Michelin Power Slick Evo and Pirelli Diablo Superbike Slick, and while the GP Racer D212 didn’t deliver the fastest lap time, Walker and McAvoy both “raved about the front, and how fast it turned as well as how much feel it produced.”
