Karoo Street adds on-road capability to Metzeler range
The Metzeler Karoo range is being extended with the introduction of the Karoo Street, a tyre developed for the latest generation of adventure, big enduro and dual-purpose motorcycles. The manufacturer sees its target rider group as those with bikes “capable of taking dirt roads in their stride,” and with the Karoo Street it anticipates that these motorcycles will “now be further enhanced” to “tackle distant road journeys, where good mileage, stability and comfort are fundamental throughout the lifecycle of the tyre.”

After being named Truck & Agricultural Tyre Supplier of The Year in both 2015 and 2016, last year Kirkby Tyres went home from the NTDA Tyre Industry Awards ceremony in October with the trophy for Tyre Wholesaler of the Year. The 2017 award was for Kirkby perhaps the crowning moment in a year that saw its original equipment and OE2 business continue to grow as well as work progress on its warehousing expansion programme. This expansion will be completed during the course of 2018 and is expected to enhance Kirkby’s operations. UK debut for Michelin Tweel at Lamma
Michelin’s X Tweel SSL airless tyre and wheel combination will make its UK public debut at Lamma 2018 later this month. The skid steer loader fitment is the first Tweel model to arrive this side of the Atlantic. It comes to market in January and will be available in two versions – the All Terrain (AT), which features a deep, open tread for off-road applications and use on varying surfaces, and the Hard Surface Traction (HST), with its smooth tread featuring a 100 per cent contact patch, for frequent use on hard surfaces such as asphalt or concrete.

During the last Tyre Safety Month, TyreSafe reminded drivers to check their TPMS is working and be aware that it does not warn drivers of the condition of their tyres nor the amount of tread depth. Vehicles first used after 1 January 2012 and equipped with a TPMS fitted by the vehicle manufacturer must have a functioning system to pass the MoT test. While typically reliable, drivers do need to check their car’s TPMS to ensure it’s working on a regular basis as the system can fail and batteries in the wheel-mounted sensors can run out.

When it became a legal requirement for all new vehicles produced and sold in Europe to be fitted with TPMS (Tyre Pressure Monitoring System) back in November 2014 the concept was still unfamiliar to the majority of motorists. In the main it was drivers of early adopter, generally high-end, marques such as BMW and Mercedes who got the benefits in terms of enhanced safety, tyre life and fuel economy.
