Fitted to a Seat Leon, the tyres were tested in both wet and dry disciplines, with a maximum 150 points up for grabs in each of these.

Is Continental about to break into PCLT tyre global big 3?
A glance at the archives of Tyres & Accessories’ global tyre manufacturer rankings reveals that the ‘Big Three’ are quite stable fixtures at the top of the table. However, new analysis from Astutus Research suggests that the perennial fourth-placed Continental Tire could be about to break the stranglehold of Bridgestone, Michelin, and Goodyear in the passenger car and light truck tyre segment (PCLT). According to Astutus’s latest report, the German manufacturer appears to have closed the gap on Goodyear, and is set to jump up a place in the rankings.

Gute Fahrt tests summer and all-season tyres
Summer tyres share the limelight with all-season tyres in the latest test from Gute Fahrt. The German car magazine has evaluated the merits of nine V-speed rated size 205/55 R16 summer tyres and, perhaps for those who’ve noticed that winter isn’t quite over yet, three all-season products that are also approved for speeds of up to 149mph or 240km/h. The tyres were mounted on Volkswagen Group cars – the VW Golf, Seat Leon and Skoda Oktavia – for testing, and this was carried out at the Pirelli proving ground in Vizzola, near Milan. Testing covered the usual criteria – braking and handling in the wet and dry, aquaplaning, wet circular track performance as well as characteristics such as rolling resistance, comfort and noise.

Davanti launches runflat range in 6 sizes, including DX390, DX640 patterns
Davanti has launched its first range of runflat tyres following extensive research and development. The UK based brand spent several years creating a new runflat to “comfortably exceed” ISO-16992 guidelines on runflat performance (that a run flat must be capable of travelling a minimum distance of 50 miles at a speed of 50mph). Davanti adds that it wanted its first runflat to “match or surpass the performance of rival European brands” which have been producing these tyres for decades.

Arlanxeo develops new rubber compound for self-sealing tyres
Arlanxeo, a global manufacturer of synthetic elastomers, has developed a rubber compound that can be used in the future to seal tyres. This solution for so-called self-sealing tyres replaces the spare wheel and also presents an alternative to a repair kit or run-flat tyre. An appropriate rubber compound from Arlanxeo, which is applied on the interior of the vehicle tyre, enables holes occurring in the tyre to be automatically sealed, so the driver can continue driving.
