Boughey Distribution invests in trailer telematics for entire fleet
Boughey Distribution, part of NWF Group, is rolling out Michelin’s EffiTrailer telematics system across all 236 trailers in its fleet. The move follows a trial organised by local Michelin advocate dealer Quinton Tyres. which demonstrated the potential further safety and efficiency improvements of the technology. The Nantwich-based logistics firm ran EffiTrailer on 12 standard length trailers and 10 Longer Semi-Trailers (LSTs) for more than a year, collecting a wealth of data and experience, before making the investment.

Pirelli may be synonymous with traditional ideas of high performance, but in 2019 the tyre manufacturer is increasingly adapting what this segment of the market can mean. Earlier in 2019, Pirelli reported that tyres made according to the company’s Green Performance strategy had risen from 20 per cent a decade ago to 29.8 per cent in 2018 – not only that, but Green Performance tyres accounted for 57.5 per cent of Pirelli’s High Value product sales. Now the manufacturer is embracing another “electrifying” direction in which to develop its high performance tyres in 2019.

Kumho has enjoyed a long-standing relationship with BMW, having for many years supplied tyres for the 1, 2 and 3 Series ranges. Now the new 5 Series BMW has joined the supply list, with Kumho’s Ecsta PS91 Super Sports tyre in 245/45R18 XL 100Y size delivered to the German marque’s Dingolfing plant in Bavaria.

The new Mazda3, launched in Japan on 24 May 2019, will run out of the factory on the new Toyo Proxes R51 A in size 215/45R18 89W. The tyre was developed jointly with the car-maker, achieving the manufacturer’s rolling resistance, dry steering stability, wet grip and comfort performance parameters, with a new rubber compound based on the proprietary material design Nano Balance Technology. This controls rubber material development at the nano level, and helps Toyo achieve a wide range of performances required to produce a well-balanced, advanced tyre.

Porsche has homologated the Goodyear Eagle F1 SuperSport RS – the most race-focused member of the new Eagle F1 SuperSport range, for the 911 GT2 RS and Porsche 911 GT3 RS. This approval covers the sizes 265/35 ZR 20 (99Y) XL and 325/30 ZR 21 (108Y) XL. The homologated Goodyear Eagle F1 SuperSport RS tyres bear the Porsche N0 marking and will be sold through the Porsche dealer network.

Kumho has developed a 20-inch commercial vehicle tyre in 45 profile, a product it calls a world first. The manufacturer will supply the PorTran KC53 in size 245/45R20C 115/113R to Hyundai as original equipment on the Solati Limousine. The minibus was originally shod with 16 inch tyres, with a number of tyre manufacturers tasked with increasing the tyre size prior to Kumho satisfying the car manufacturer’s needs.
