Following the news that Nussbaum had got into financial difficulties due to the costs of restructuring process that had been going on since 2014, high repayment charges, a slump in demand and the effects of the COVID19 pandemic, its future has now apparently been secured. Our German sister publication Neue Reifenzeitung’s online portal reifepresse.de reports that after the bankruptcy of parent company Otto Nußbaum GmbH & Co. KG, the insolvency administrator Dr. Dirk Pehl of Schultze & Braun sold the business to the newly-founded Nussbaum Custom Lifts GmbH effective 1 July 2020, which is also connected to the Nussbaum family. As a result, around 220 employees will be transferred to the new company and the firm’s production sites in Kehl are to be retained.

The manufacturer says the tyres are tailored to the needs of this type of bike, in which the engine assistance subjects the tyres to stress that is higher on average than traditional MTB tyres. It has put into practice its experiences with motor powered vehicles in the Scorpion E-MTB development. It adds that sustainability, so important in the design considerations for the tyre, is also the basis for its return to the cycling market.

ATG extends Galaxy Garden Pro lawn and turf tyre range
ATG has extended its leading range of Galaxy brand radial tyres for small tractors used in gardening, orchards and vineyards. The Galaxy Garden Pro offers nearly 50 per cent greater tread depth than typical R3 tyres – Galaxy calls it an R3+ tyre – with a solid-to-void tread ratio of 49:51 to promote self-cleaning. It is available in 23 sizes for rim sizes between 12 and 30, including five newly launched sizes. ATG says Galaxy now covers the segment of smaller and medium utility tractors in the segment.

Bridgestone partners Microsoft on intelligent tyre monitoring system
Bridgestone has collaborated with Microsoft in the development of a new monitoring system for the real-time detection of tyre damage. The UK’s Department for Transport 2018 statistics show tyre issues contribute to 30 per cent of all car accidents caused by technical failure. Bridgestone says its Tyre Damage Monitoring System is the “final piece in tracking tyre issues.” The system offers similar applications to recent market solutions that process live data using algorithms to predict the effects of tyre damage and notify drivers, fleet operators and service providers. What separates it from existing systems is that no additional hardware need be installed, the manufacturer adds.
