ETRMA data confirms steep drop in replacement tyre sales
The second quarter of 2020 provided the worst quarterly sales results in recorded memory, the European Tyre and Rubber Manufacturers’ Association (ETRMA) states. Publishing its members’ replacement tyre sales for the Covid-19 pandemic stricken quarter, ETRMA secretary general Fazilet Cinaralp said: “The tyre sector’s full recovery is still far away. For the moment, we can only hope for the market to stabilise in the second half of the year. Our outlook for 2020 remains bleak with a double-digit drop in sales expected across all segments.”

Potato farmer reselects original Michelin YieldBib sprayer tyre
FG Pryor & Son has chosen to fit a new set of Michelin YieldBib tyres on its Bateman RB35 sprayer. The tyre in size VF 380/85 R34 149A8/B TL was the original equipment fitment for the sprayer, primarily used to support potato and cereal crops on Colwyn Farm, in Truro, Cornwall. Michelin Exelagri dealer Geoffrey Harris Tyres supplies and fits the replacement tyres. “We have found the YieldBibs to perform really well for us and we had no hesitation in going back for another set,” says Warwick Pryor, driver and farmhand at FG Pryor & Son.

Petlas launches 1st all-season car tyre, following SUV 3PMSF certification
Petlas is to launch its first all-season car tyre, the PT565 MultiAction. The leading Turkish brand says the new tyre has targeted both performance in all weather conditions and sustainability. Its R&D engineers developed the PT565 with lower rolling resistance to help reduce emissions. The tyre has a V-shaped block patten with its optimised sipe density to offer better grip and traction on dry, wet, and snowy surfaces. The manufacturer said the tyre represents the distillation of its manufacturing expertise accumulated over more than 40 years.

‘Tiny percentage of damage claims’ on Michelin products
In the 12 months ending 30 June 2020, Michelin received just 769 eligible claims for damage under its free accidental damage guarantee for regional commercial tyres. Nearly 120,000 entitled truck and bus tyres were sold in the UK and Ireland during this period, meaning a claim rate of 0.65 per cent. Michelin says the rate highlights its product quality, and demonstrates its products’ safety, performance and uptime benefits. The manufacturer claims to be the first to introduce such a guarantee. The programme now covers the majority of its regional and on/off-road ranges when specified as either original equipment or as a replacement.

Bridgestone says Enliten Technology “sets a new lowered standard in material use and rolling resistance to deliver significant environmental benefits,” making it ideally suited to a car launch characterised as a milestone in sustainability.

Hankook supplies e-tyres for Porsche Taycan electric sports cars
The new Porsche Taycan, the manufacturer’s first all-electric sports car, will roll of production lines on specially developed Hankook Ventus S1 evo 3 ev electric vehicle tyres. Supplied in size 225/55R19 XL 103Y on the front axle and 275/45R19 XL 108Y on the rear axle the tyre will be marked “NF0” on the sidewall. Hankook says the Ventus S1 evo 3 ev includes technical refinements designed to optimise the performance of electric sports cars. The new deal extends Hankook’s relationship with Porsche, and the tyre manufacturers increasing interest in electric vehicles. The Korean tyre manufacturer most recently announced it is supplying the Porsche Cayenne with the SUV version of the Ventus S1 evo 3. It is also tyre partner to Kyburz’s eRod roadster. Hankook was also recently unveiled as the new tyre supplier for premier electric motorsport series Formula E.
