Michelin debuts Recamic Line D tread
Truck tyre retreading is an integral part of Michelin’s sustainable mobility strategy and the company offers numerous solutions in Europe under its Michelin Remix, Laurent and Recamic brands. It has introduced a new long-haul transport tread for drive axle use, the Recamic Line D. Michelin says this addition to its Recamic pre-cure tread range offers up to 15 per cent higher mileage than the previous-generation product, the Recamic XDA2 Energy.

Hankook extends Audi RS original tyre fitments
Hankook will supply original tyres for the Audi RS 6 Avant and Audi RS 7 Sportback. Both models are due to be launched in 2020. Hankook will supply its Ventus S1 evo 3 UHP summer tyre and Winter i*cept evo 2 winter tyre in 21 or 22 inch dimensions. The new fitments extend Hankook’s original equipment business at Audi on its powerful RS models - it has recently supplied OE tyres to the RS 5 Coupé and the RS 4 Avant. The RS 6 Avant and RS 7 Sportback feature 441 kW (600 hp) engines, sprinting from 0-100km/h in 3.6 seconds. While they are high-performance sports cars, Audi has designed the models to offer space and comfort for the whole family.

Goodyear has launched a new off-highway tyre, the RH-4A+. The newest addition to its off-highway large haulage product line is engineered to deliver a lower operating cost per hour and higher productivity on hard rock surfaces. The tyre features an extra-deep E-4+ tread depth with a high net-to-gross tread pattern and optimised footprint pressure to help provide long hours to removal.

Pirelli Scorpion range selected for Rivian electric vehicles
Electric vehicle start-up Rivian’s R1T pickup, which begins production in June 2021, and its R1S electric SUV will roll off production lines on Pirelli’s Scorpion range. The premium tyre manufacturer has developed special versions of its Scorpion Verde All Season, Scorpion Zero All Season and Scorpion All Terrain tyres to meet the OEM’s specifications. The OE fitments follow its “Pirelli Perfect Fit” strategy – all Pirelli tyres developed for Rivian have a special marking on the shoulder: RIV and Elect. The latter denotes Pirelli’s development of tyres for electric vehicles, which play a crucial role in key EV performance goals; safety, performance, and range optimisation.

Bridgestone Blizzak LM005 heads list of 7 ‘very recommendable’ winter tyres
The Autozeitung winter tyre test has revealed “extreme differences” between the best and worst winter tyres, according to its testing panel. The first and last-placed tyres in the product comparison were ultimately no less than 43 percentage points apart in the overall rating. This is, in part, because Autozeitung has changed its evaluation scheme compared to previous years. A percentage value is now given for the performance shown in the three performance categories of snow, wet, and dry – previously points were awarded – with a mean average percentage calculated to define final placements. 14 tyres in size 205/55 R16 were mounted on a VW Golf 1.5 TSI for the test.

Just how much of an effect tyres can have in keeping costs down was illustrated recently when tyres from Michelin’s X Line Energy range – designed for fleets seeking the lowest possible carbon footprint – were fitted to two Volvo trucks which have set new fuel efficiency records on demanding press road tests in the UK.
