Auto Bild summer tyre test: Hankook impresses in preliminary round
We’ll have to wait another fortnight to learn the winner of this year’s Auto Bild summer tyre test, but the motoring magazine has let the names of the finalists out of the bag. Of the more than 50 tyre brands that Auto Bild looked at – this year in size 205/55 R16 91V – just 20 remain for further, more intensive testing following the qualifying round. Hankook’s candidate tops the shortlist after achieving the best stopping distances in both the wet and dry braking tests.

Pirelli claims a world first with its original equipment tyre supply to the new McLaren Artura hybrid supercar. The Italian firm isn’t shipping any old bespoke P Zero tyres, rather tyres that will ‘talk’ to the Artura via Pirelli’s Cyber Tyre system. Each of the 235/35Z R19 front and 295/35 R20 rear tyres contain a sensor that loquaciously provides vital data to the car’s onboard computer.

The Korean tyre-maker will supply the NFera Sport UHP tyre, the NBlue S summer eco tyre and the Winguard Sport 2 winter tyre for fitment on the premium compact Audi. The fourth-generation Audi A3, the marque’s premium compact car, was launched in Spring 2020, and is available in Sportback, built on the Volkswagen Group’s MQB platform, and Saloon variants.

Tyre retailer and car maintenance brand Point S is launching a new version of its exclusive brand summer tyre. It says the tyre offers better efficiency, safety and longevity. The company is keeping the branding of its house brand tyre line simple; the range is branded “Point S Tyres” and will include Summer, Winter and 4 Seasons patterns. The new Point S Tyres Summer replaces its Summerstar 3+. The company says it invested in research and development to achieve a range of performance improvements, including 7 per cent better rolling resistance, 5 per cent longer mileage, and 3 per cent shorter wet braking distances. The full Point S Tyres Summer range is rated B for wet grip in the European tyre label. The tyre will be distributed in the European, African and Asian markets.
