Vredestein Ultrac & Sportrac for Audi A1
Audi has selected Apollo Tyres’ latest Vredestein Ultrac and Sportrac summer tyres as original equipment for the Audi A1 Sportback, with factory fitment on selected models. Produced at Apollo Tyres’ facilities in Hungary, the tyres chosen by Audi will be supplied in two sizes, 15-inch for the Sportrac (185/65 R15 V) and 17-inch for the Ultrac (215/45 R17 W). Both tyres are also available in the replacement market.

Not only is Pirelli supplying its P Zero to the limited-edition Lamborghini Countach LPI 800-4, the tyre maker has now re-released the tyre fitted to the prototype Countach LP500 half a century ago. It is doing so to shod a recreation of the 1971 prototype that Lamborghini’s heritage division has built for a wealthy collector.

Giti Tire has heralded the ‘good’ rating awarded to its new GT Radial Winterpro2 in the 2021 Auto Motor und Sport (AM&S) winter tyre test. The test pitted ten tyre brands from the premium and mid-range against each other in an all-round tyre of winter tyre performances. The WinterPro2 scored well in all tests, with especially good results in braking on dry, wet and snowy surfaces. The magazine also praised the tyre for ‘its comfortable ride properties [and] a firm and good grip on both wet and dry roads’.

All-season tyres have found favour with tyre testers in recent years, but Auto Bild points out that most tests focus on tyres for small and compact cars. To address a dearth of testing for sporty mid-sized saloons, the German motoring publication has evaluated 32 tyre models in size 225/50 R17. In Auto Bild tradition, the testers performed wet and dry braking tests to pare down the field of candidates to a shortlist of the 16 top performers. They then subjected the finalists to various tests in dry, wet and snowy conditions and also evaluated characteristics such as rolling resistance, mileage potential and price-performance ratio.

Delphi Technologies has launched the BlueTech VCI diagnostics interface that offers “an extensive suite of diagnostic interrogations, real world data, and more”. According to Delphi Technologies, the firm’s previous Vehicle Communication Interface (VCI) will still be fully supported within the diagnostic range to “offer workshops choice and flexibility in finding a diagnostic solution which meets their needs”.

Trelleborg Group brand Mitas has announced price increases for its motorcycle, scooter, go kart, trailer and aircraft tyres, as well as for its complete range of tubes and mousses. This increase, the second for 2021, takes effect from 1 October 2021 and is being implemented due to “significantly higher prices of raw materials and logistic services across the industry.”

Although radial tyres are increasing their share of India’s light commercial vehicle sector, Apollo Tyres points out that around 165,000 cross-ply/bias light commercial tyres are sold throughout India every month. The tyre maker states it is “looking to get a share of this market” and has thus introduced a new cross-ply range, Apollo Bhim. It is offering two SKUs and says these will cater to nearly 80 per cent of the market in this segment.

The manufacturer’s vintage tyre range is designed for iconic cars built between 1950 and 1980, uniting vintage looks and modern technology.
