Dunlop launches RoadSmart IV
Dunlop is introducing a new generation of its RoadSmart line-up next year and promises that this, the RoadSmart IV, will be the brand’s “most versatile sport-touring tyre yet.” It will offer the tyre in a 21-size and 24 SKU range that brings Dunlop’s total portfolio of RoadSmart sport-touring tyres to over 40 sizes, covering more than 700 models and 97 per cent of the sport-touring radial tyre segment.

The latest off-road product from Hankook Tire has arrived. The Dynapro MT2 is billed as the “the most capable and extreme off-road tyre Hankook has ever offered” and arrives equipped with the latest innovations from the manufacturer’s Technodome R&D centre. At launch this successor to the Dynapro MT is available in 19 popular dimensions that cover the 15- to 19-inch rim diameter range, with white ‘Dynapro’ sidewall lettering available on some sizes.

The FIM MiniGP World Series was launched earlier this year as the “newest path on the Road to MotoGP” and to serve as an umbrella for the various national, regional and continental MiniGP competitions, such as the FIM MiniGP UK Series. Through its partnership with FIM, Dorna Sports S.L. and Ohvale, Pirelli serves as sole tyre supplier, and to equip these bikes the tyre maker has presented its first NHS competition range dedicated to small motorcycles with 10- and 12-inch wheels, such as pitbikes, minimotards and scooters.

The results of comparative tyre tests are a familiar site on the pages of Tyrepress.com during the autumn, with numerous motoring associations and publications releasing the results of their all-season and winter tests at this time of year. Hankook was present in many of these and victorious in two, the Auto Bild Sportscars winter test and Auto Bild Allrad all-season evaluation. UK site Tyre Reviews also gave the Hankook entrant is editor’s recommendation, exclaiming that the brand seems “to be on a roll at the moment.”

Rebecca Shedden, Continental’s general sales manager for Commercial Specialty Tyres, says: “The CompactMaster EM is specifically designed to help operators handle demanding rough conditions. The tyre features new Turtle Shield tread technology and a twisted steel cord. The hard shell, and more flexible steel wire construction, helps to prevent cuts and damages whilst offering greater stability.”

Monday’s tyre test at France’s Paul Ricard circuit heralded the conclusion of Pirelli’s initial development programme for 18-inch Formula 1 tyres. Alpine’s Daniil Kvyat was in the seat for the wet test, finishing a programme disrupted by the Covid-19 pandemic. The flagship global motorsport series will switch to the new low-profile tyres in 2022, shifting away from the 13-inch tyres currently used. Pirelli calls this move a technical revolution and has devoted an intense period of research and development to the change, with indoor and outdoor testing. The manufacturer will now tweak the tyre based on 2022-specification car testing.

Terratoura A/T ambassador Edd Cobley has won the British Cross Country Championship’s Modified Production class. The off-road rally legend added the title to his collection with a brave performance at Walters Arena in Neath, South Wales. Cobley ran his self-built custom Land Rover Defender 110 - nicknamed Skippy 2.0 - on the Terratoura A/T throughout the championship, competing against competitors on Kevlar-reinforced specialist rally tyres.

TyreSafe has calculated that UK motorists waste more than £600 million worth of fuel due to tyre underinflation. Using data from Michelin’s Fill Up With Air survey showing that 57 per cent of vehicles are driven on underinflated tyres, as well as information sourced from the Department for Transport and the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders, TyreSafe is tying the economic argument for ensuring tyres are correctly inflated alongside safety concerns for this year’s Tyre Safety Month. Referring both to the general awareness of tyres as a vital safety component and rhetorically to question why drivers would not check their tyres at least once a month, his year’s October campaign asks Britain’s motorists directly: “What’s Stopping You?”

The UK’s largest tyre wholesaler said it is bringing in a new Matador Customer Key Dealer Programme “designed with forward-thinking initiatives and has retailers at the centre of its strategy.” In the current trading environment, the brand has several advantages, one being the proximity of its production to the UK; all the brand’s car, van and 4x4 tyres are manufactured in Europe. Combined with Conti’s strong European supply chain infrastructure, Stapleton’s makes the point that Matador “has excellent availability with fast shipping into the UK from European factories.”
