Goodyear debuts latest generation of sustainability-focused truck tyres
A new range of Goodyear truck tyres has arrived, and the manufacturer tells us that the Goodyear EQMAX and EQMAX Ultra offer several key benefits thanks to a design and development focus upon sustainable material usage, fuel efficiency, and versatility that has resulted in tyres well-suited to a wide range of applications, from long-haul to inter-regional routes. Goodyear is presenting the newcomers at the IAA Transportation show in Hannover, Germany next week.

It has been a little parky outside these last few days, but another sign of winter’s approach is the publication of comparative tests for specialised cold weather tyres. German motoring magazines Auto Straßenverkehr and auto, motor und sport (ams) have jointly evaluated ten winter SUV tyres in size 235/55 R18. The results of the two tests differ slightly as Auto Straßenverkehr looked at purchase price while ams did not, but this factor didn’t affect the final table ranking.

As a kind of search for the best SUV tyre solution, AutoBild Allrad pitted seven models from the same manufacturer – in this case Pirelli – against each other. The test specifically compared 255/55 R19 products on dry and wet roads, including their respective aquaplaning safety as a separate sub-discipline, as well as in winter conditions, off-road use or in terms of their environmental properties. “There is no one tyre that can do everything,” was the final conclusion.

Aeolus recently decided to increase the production capacity of giant tyres again. The tyre manufacturer said it will invest about 1.464 billion yuan (about £160 million; €180 million) to add 20,000 giant engineering radial tyre production capacity. Through the new project, the tyre manufacturer is trying to “further optimise the product structure, seize the high-end market, and increase market share.”

Across the next five years, value is expected increase rapidly at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 50.5 per cent driving value to $179.51 million in 2029, at constant prices. During the same period, volume is expected to climb to 871,000 units.

Hankook is supplying its iON evo SUV tyres for the new Cupra Tavascan. Specially developed for all-electric vehicles, this summer tyre has been developed to match the handling characteristics of the SUV, according to the tyremaker. The Hankook premium tyre, with the “+” marking for original equipment, is available for the Cupra Tavascan as a mixed tyre in the 19-inch variants and as an all-position tyre in the 20- and 21-inch sizes. The 21-inch tyre also comes in a special sport design, identifiable by the notation “e-Performance” on the sidewall. In keeping with its sporty tuning, it offers even more traction and shorter braking distances thanks to its high-grip mixture. Hankook also offers a 19-inch all-season tyre, designed specifically for electric vehicles, as original equipment for the model.
