Suzuki Releases Continental Tyres for New Vitara S-Cross
Suzuki Motor Corporation is looking to Continental AG when it comes to tyres for the company’s new Vitara S-Cross. More specifically, Suzuki chose the 215/55 R17 94V EcoContact 6 fitment because they wanted “energy-saving” properties as well as the tyres that are “quiet on the road”. Continental reports that the tyre line and size is approved for the Suzuki Vitara S-Cross in “numerous countries”.

2024 The UK new light commercial vehicle (LCV) market declined -4.5 per cent to 33,066 units in June, ending a record-equalling 17-month growth run, according to the latest figures from the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT). Despite the fall, the market has remained robust in the first half of the year – up by 4.5 per cent with some 177,620 new vans, pickups and 4x4s registered in 2024, the best performance since 2021.

New car market hits ‘million motors’ milestone at half year
The UK new car market has hit the half year million motors mark for the first time in five years, after new car registrations rose in June by a modest 1.1 per cent to reach 179,263 units, according to new figures published by the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT). As a result, so far in 2024, 1,006,763 new cars have been registered, up 6.0 per cent on the previous year but still down -20.7 per cent on 2019.

Despite a host of factors such as uncertain material, transportation and energy prices, the end of the pandemic has facilitated the company’s return to the black. After recording a pre-tax loss of £2.97 million in 2022, last year DATL achieved a profit before tax of £804,000.

Profit almost doubled – Michelin publishes UK financials
In its financial results for 2023, published with Companies House on 2 July, Michelin’s UK operation reports a 3.7 per cent year-on-year increase in turnover, to £530 million. Michelin Tyre PLC says this improvement mainly results from a positive price/mix effect and reflects firm price discipline at a time of increasing raw materials prices, energy, labour, and other costs. Michelin further reports that its sales within the UK rose 4.5 per cent year-on-year.

Goodyear the favourite in ADAC all-season tyre test
In its 2024 summer tyre test, the German motoring association ADAC examined only one product size rather than the usual two, focusing on just a single dimension so that testing capacity was available to address increasing demand within the all-season tyre segment. The ADAC test team looked at 16 all-season tyres in the popular 205/55 R16 size. For the first time in its years of all-season tyre testing, the motoring club awarded one product – its test winner – a good rating. It declared a further six tyres to be satisfactory, seven adequate, and found two to be insufficient.
