Ring asks “Has price replaced safety in the aftermarket?”
Ring, the automotive lighting and auto electrics supplier, has a state of the art lighting laboratory located at its headquarters in Leeds, UK, and while testing a range of bulbs in the industry has found worrying results, including bulbs that are not road legal. The laboratory team does not only test Ring and OSRAM’s own products, but also products from other automotive lighting companies to see how the quality compares and if it meets the legal standards. Recently, the company has found some worrying trends that there are bulbs being sold in the UK that are not compliant with current legislation and are therefore, not road legal.

Michelin has finalised its shared investment plan alongside joint venture partners Enviro and Antin for the construction of a first end-of-life tyre recycling plant in Uddevalla, Sweden. Use charging breaks to check electric vehicle tyres – TyreSafe
TyreSafe is encouraging electric vehicle drivers to use charging breaks to conduct vital tyre checks. Charging an EV presents a natural opportunity for using the tyre safety organisations A.C.T acronym, Air, Condition, Tread, to guide drivers through checks that can be done without specialist equipment. By taking just a few minutes to inspect their tyres, drivers can significantly reduce the risk of accidents and breakdowns. EVs, with their greater, instant torque and heavier loads, can mean tyres are susceptible to wear, making regular checks particularly vital. The latest initiative is part of a partnership between TyreSafe and PCL.

BFGoodrich tech team tune tyres for better response
BFGoodrich’s technical experts have improved the stability and handling of a Ford Ranger deployed by the County Durham and Darlington Fire Service, after tuning the tyre inflation pressures to the precise needs of its BFGoodrich KO2 tyres following comprehensive analysis. The Targeted Response Vehicle was purchased by the fire and rescue service specifically to manage off-road work, including attending non-life threatening incidents. But some concerns about its instability led to a series of tyre tests at Millbrook Proving Ground, which highlighted issues with unpredictable change from significant understeer to oversteer.

Halfords shares plummet after consumer tyre-related profit warning, but Autocentres remain ‘bright spot’
Halfords Group’s share price fell by around a quarter in response to an unexpected profit warning notice on 28 February, which suggested Halfords would make substantially less profit than the firm forecast roughly a month earlier. At least part of the reason for the profit warning was softening demand in the consumer tyre sector. Halfords stock recovered slightly in early trading on the morning of 29 February, however the five-day chart shows that the company’s share price remains around a quarter down.
