Webfleet offering assistance with CSRD compliance

The CSRD will trawl its net further each year until, by 2027, the requirement to record CO2 data will apply to all UK companies with a non-EU parent and more than €135 million in EU turnover. Bridgestone Mobility Solutions says its Webfleet solution can help fleets impacted the CSRD.

Nokian lays off car tyre production in Nokia
Nokian Tyres is adjusting production at its Nokia passenger car tyre factory in Finland for “at least two weeks”. However, based on recent negotiations the production employees can be laid off due to financial and production related reasons for a maximum period of 90 days. The lay-offs result from “ongoing political strikes affecting ports and transportation in Finland”, according to the company. Nokian reports that that wider environment has led to “Nokian Tyres’ inventories of tyres filling up, as the company is unable to deliver tyres to its customers”.

Davanti brand boasts “some of the most researched” SUV tyres out there
Recent analysis from Transport & Environment found that SUV sales in the UK have increased consistently over the last few years. Indeed, in 2023 60 per cent of new car registrations were SUVs, but what does that mean for the tyre industry? The shift in car manufacturing and consumer trends means there is an increase in demand for 4×4 and SUV tyres, which offer motorists reliability and safety, as well as the performance to tackle difficult terrains.

New names join TTC exhibitor list – Michelin confirms attendance
When the organiser of tyre industry trade fair The Tire Cologne published the exhibitor list for this June’s event last week, we noted several high-profile absences. It appears we were too quick to the draw, as the exhibitor list has grown since first going public.

Sportauto evaluates sporty 215/40R18 tyres
After subjecting its Hyundai i20 N loan car to all manner of testing, the Sportauto team have finally turned their attention to the tyres. As a crowning finale to its activities with this pocket rocket, the German performance car magazine fitted five brands of size 215/40R18 summer tyre to evaluate how each product influences the Hyundai’s performance and safety characteristics. For good measure, the test team also worked with an all-season tyre, but did not include it in the final results.

From kitchen table to the world – Vimexa celebrates 10th birthday
It’s now little over a decade since Rutger Veerman told us of his plan to establish himself as a ‘matchmaker’ for tyre, wheel and battery companies. The idea was to serve as an intermediary between supply and demand, matching stocks in and outside Europe with customers seeking these products. Vimexa Automotive BV figuratively opened its doors for business in January 2014.

As for the ninth test, no Continental tyre took part, giving other brands a chance to get acquainted with the podium.

How much might Sumitomo Rubber Industries pay for Dunlop?
During an earnings call with investors in mid-February, Sumitomo Rubber Industries (SRI) did the closest thing possible to throwing its hat into the ring when it comes to buying Dunlop tyre brand rights when SRI executives acknowledged their interest in buying Dunlop in Europe and North America. Those rights currently belong to The Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company, which recently announced its intention to position Dunlop as a “strategic player within the high-end value segment of the market” to prevent direct competition against its main Goodyear brand within the premium segment.

Michelin sharing tyre particulate research system with ETRMA members
Michelin reports that it is presenting a “new step forward with the development of a system for analysing small particles” as well as “the first research results to the scientific community and industry” during Tire Technology 2024. Details of this research were published in December 2022 and in March 2023. More recently, Michelin has made the system for analysing emitted light particles available to the tyre industry and to ETRMA (European Tyre & Rubber Manufacturers’ Association). The ETRMA will furthermore conduct a campaign of measurements on a larger scale with the aid of an independent third party. The campaign will launch this year and will continue for around 18 months.
