Hillhead publishes 2024 exhibitor list
The Hillhead Show is preparing for its 2024 edition on 25-27 June at Hillhead Quarry in Derbyshire, and the event’s initial exhibitor list is now live. The list reveals that the show is set for its largest event yet, with more for visitors to see than ever before. The event will host more than 600 companies, as the quarrying, construction and recycling industries contend with rapid changes driven by digitalisation, automation and decarbonisation. They will showcase the latest technology and innovation to increase business’ productivity and sustainability.

Below, we look at the big numbers from the March 2024 magazine. 1.2 million tonnes - The approximate tonnage of waste tyres imported annually by India, extrapolated from Indian Automotive Tyre Manufacturers’ Association (ATMA) figures covering the eight-month period April-November 2023, for which the UK is a primary source. Around 90 per cent of this total undergoes batch-pyrolysis, a method the UK’s Tyre Recovery Association considers “outdated” and “highly polluting”

This year, reigning BTCC champions, NAPA Racing, is welcoming new sponsors into this coming season, two of which are Ring Automotive, with its logo prominently displayed on the rear wheel arches of Sam Osbourne’s car, and its parent company, Osram, with its logo on the front of the car under both headlights of Dan Rowbottom’s car.

In February, the EU experienced a surge in car sales, up by 10.1 per cent compared to last year, totalling 883,608 units. France and Italy led this growth with double digit increases (13 per cent and 12.8 per cent respectively), while Spain and Germany followed with solid single-digit growth (9.9 per cent and 5.4 per cent). Battery-electric cars maintained a stable market share of 12 per cent, with sales growing by 9 per cent to 106,187 units. Hybrid-electric cars saw a surge in sales by 24.7 per cent, totalling 255,511 units and capturing nearly 29 per cent of the market. Plug-in hybrid cars also experienced notable growth, now representing 7.3 per cent of the EU car sales.

Three time Denso League of True Mechanics UK award winner, Edd Hunt, was the first post on the brand new Denso Instagram page, as he appeared on OJ Borg’s late night BBC Radio 2 show. Following a chance meeting with OJ after an awards ceremony, the DJ suggested Edd appear on his show to highlight the Denso League of True Mechanics (LOTM) competition. “Id been talking to OJ about the win and how I wanted to announce it in a high profile way, and he pitched the idea of me being a guest on the radio show to the production team and, provided we dressed up for the occasion, they approved it,” Edd explained.

The international automotive supplier Forvia Hella has received the John Deere Award in the sustainability category. The leading manufacturer of agricultural machinery honours Forvia Hella for its heat recovery system at the Großpetersdorf site in Austria. The system saves around 175,000 kilowatt hours of natural gas per year and therefore around 32,000 kilograms of CO2. The award was presented at the John Deere European Supplier Conference in March 2024 in Mannheim, Germany.

Steel wire and coating technologies firm Bekaert and Edison Next, the Edison Group company supporting customers with ecological transition and decarbonisation, have signed a 12-year on-site Power Purchase Agreement (PPA). This PPA will see the installation of a photovoltaic system with a total power of 6.1 MW at Bekaert’s plant in Sardinia, Italy. The 6.1 MW solar installation will be capable of meeting more than 20 per cent of the plants current energy requirements.
