Michelin targets 30% CO2 cut from HVO-powered fleet
Michelin aims to achieve a 30 per cent reduction in CO2 emissions across its Stoke-on-Trent-based logistics fleet in 2024 by transitioning to hydrotreated vegetable oil (HVO) as a diesel replacement. The company has secured 400,000 litres of HVO to be used until the end of the year.

ISCC PLUS sustainability certification for Continental’s Púchov plant
The Continental plant in Púchov, Slovakia recently achieved the distinction of becoming the companys first truck tyre manufacturing facility to gain International Sustainability and Carbon Certification (ISCC) PLUS credentials. Púchov is Continental’s third ISCC PLUS-certified production site, following the tyre plants in Lousado, Portugal, and Hefei, China. Anton Vatala, who is in charge of the plant, calls the certification “a sign of our commitment to both quality and sustainability.”

Michelin welcomes regulations for worn tyre performance
Changes to UN/ECE Regulation No. 117 (R117) came into effect on 1 July 2024 and extend the regulation to include limits related to the wet grip properties of worn tyres. Michelin, which has long advocated for tyres that are safe right down to the 1.6mm legal tread depth limit, expresses strong support for the updated R117-04. In a statement issued this week, the tyre maker praises R117-04 for its role in “guaranteeing better safety on the roads” while also “addressing the issues of protecting both the planet and the purchasing power of European motorists.”
