Our Virtual Academy, a leader in online and face-to-face automotive technical training, is backing the Garage Services Online ‘EV Edge’ campaign to help independent garages get the best return on their electric vehicle (EV) investment. With over 1.25 million EVs already on UK roads, the EV Edge initiative seeks to position independent garages as the preferred choice for hybrid and EV services by significantly enhancing their visibility to EV owners.

Indian agricultural tyre specialist BKT will exhibit at EIMA, a leading international exhibition for agricultural machinery in Bologna, Italy from 6-10 November, 2024. The Indian multinational said its display would include events, experiences, and product launches for the agro-mechanical industry. BKT has a large exhibition area of more than 600sqm at stand B1 in hall 36.

Indian tyre maker Ceat Specialty will supply its Farmax agricultural tyres to AGCO’s Massey Ferguson tractors. The Massey Ferguson 5700 M series tractor will be the first tractor to fit Ceat agricultural tyres, with plans to extend across multiple product lines, strengthening the companies’ collaboration in the European market. The first to roll out in the latest Ceat-Massey Ferguson collaboration is the MF 5711 M 115 HP tractor, now equipped with Ceat Farmax R65 tyres in sizes 440/65 R 28 and 540/65 R 38.

Specifically, Yanggu Huatai plans to purchase the company’s control of Bomi Technology by issuing shares and raising supporting funds. At present, Yanggu Huatai has not yet given a specific acquisition plan.

On 30 October, Sailun announced it is building an industrial park in Cambodia called “Cambodia Kampot Special Economic Zone Project” (Kampot SEZ). Furthermore, Sailun said that it is preparing to set up a wholly-owned subsidiary, Kampot Bay Investment Co., Ltd., in Cambodia, which will be responsible for implementing the Kampot SEZ. The project’s total investment is about US$110 million, which will be covered by Sailun’s self-raised funds.

At the same time as announcing its plans for as Cambodian industrial park project, Sailun also noted that details associated with its Mexican factory have changed. The tyre manufacturer has negotiated with the Mexican project’s partner, TD (Tire Direct International Holding, S.A.P.I. DE C.V.), to adjust the registered capital and investment ratio of the Mexican implementation entity STT (SL & TD Tire Manufacturing, S.A.P.I. DE C.V.).

When American Tire Distributors, Inc. (ATD) filed Chapter 11 on 22 October 2024, the large US tyre distributor did so for the second time in roughly six years. And it did so leaving tyremakers with north of US$589 million outstanding. If North America’s largest tyre brands weren’t nervous at this point, more than half of that will be connected to the balance sheet of just three tyremakers.

Nexen Tire has reported third-quarter 2024 sales of KRW 708.5 billion (£396.595 million; 474.829 million euros; US$514.418 million), up 2.3 per cent on last year. And KRW 52.3 billion in operating profit. Revenue growth in the third quarter was reportedly driven by higher sales in the European market, which grew by 11.9 per cent year-on-year. More specifically, Nexen reported strong winter tyre sales in Europe during the peak seasons of 2Q24 and 3Q24. Despite a slowdown in European original equipment (OE) market, tyre supply there is said to have remained stable “thanks to the company’s expanded supply to premium brands and increased brand recognition through marketing efforts such as the Manchester City partnership.”

The European Tyre and Rubber Manufacturers’ Association (ETRMA) has published its members’ replacement tyre sales figures for the third quarter and first nine months of 2024, comparing these results with statistics for tyre imports during the period. Adam McCarthy, the association’s Secretary General, notes that while member sales volumes for Consumer segment tyres are improving, mainly driven by rising demand for all-season tyres, volumes are still negative in the Truck segment. Significantly, both are still far from their pre-pandemic volumes.

Research conducted by HiQ Tyres & Autocare suggests more than one in four tyre replacements in the UK are caused by the countrys deteriorating road conditions. Specifically, 28 per cent of tyre replacements in the UK are caused by damage from potholes and poor road conditions. The month-long study surveyed a nationwide selection of HiQ Tyres & Autocare stores to record the total number of tyres replaced due to damage.
