Yokohama, Pirelli execs join BTMA Board
At a meeting on 15 October, the Board British Tyre Manufacturers’ Association (BTMA) welcomed its first ever female member. Marisa Hever-Smith, Managing Director at Yokohama HPT, joins the Board as one of two new additions. Dimitrios Papadakos, who Pirelli recently appointed as CEO of Pirelli UK, also takes a place on the BTMA Board.

The U.S. Tire Manufacturers Association (USTMA) projects that total tyre shipments in the USA will reach 338.9 million units in 2024, an increase of 2.1 per cent compared with the 331.9 million units shipped last year and 1.8 per cent more than the 332.7 million units in 2019. This year’s shipments look set to surpass the previous record of 335.2 million units in 2021.

These resignations are effective 3 December 2024. Additionally, Tirupati Tyres has appointed a new Managing Director and Chief Financial Officer; Pavan Patel has taken on this role for a period of five years, effective 2 December 2024.

Park will lead the premium tyre manufacturer’s operations in its key European market. After debuting the Seasonproof C1 all-season tyre in November, Nokian Tyres will release the Cargoproof C summer tyre in February 2025. Both sit alongside the existing Nokian Tyres Snowproof C winter tyre within the Finnish manufacturer’s van segment range.

With a spin-off on the cards, Continental is pursuing a strategy of focusing on core strengths and streamlining business operations within its Automotive sector. As part of this focus, the company has sold its 2016-acquired fleet management business Zonar to GPS Trackit, an industry pioneer in cloud-based, IoT fleet solutions and GPS fleet tracking. Neither Continental nor GPS Trackit’s parent, Philadelphia, USA-based buyout firm Inverness Graham, have disclosed the financial terms or other details of the transaction.
