Mercedes dominates as Hamilton, Rosberg, rookies back up Pirelli pre-season tyre data
Pirelli said that its pre-season data has been backed up by lap times around two seconds quicker than 2014 at the season-opening Australian grand prix. Reigning champion Lewis Hamilton beat his Mercedes team mate Nico Rosberg from pole, with both drivers utilising cool conditions and low degradation to perform very similar one-stop strategies.

Pirelli supports British Superbike teams’ Spanish pre-season testing
Pirelli has supported a large number of the British Superbike Championship’s teams as they carried out winter testing in Spain. The tyre supplier to the series helped the 2015 roster complete the Official BSB Test in Almeria, the Pro Test at Cartagena, Guadix and Monteblanco, as teams tested new bikes, set-ups and devising tyre strategies. The Pirelli logistics team and UK Pirelli racing manager Jason Griffiths supported the multitude of tests completed ahead of the Donington Park opener on 4-6 April. Teams already have a full year of tyre data, since the 2015 Pirelli Diablo Superbikes used in the competition remain the same as in 2014. Pirelli predicts that the experience gained by the teams in 2014 may well result in the softer SC0 solution playing a more significant role this season.

Falken goes for continuity in 2015 VLN and Nürburgring campaign

No room at the inn, and almost no tyres, for F1 teams
Formula One teams are said to pay Pirelli around £1.4 million for a season’s worth of tyres, minus a discount for the placement of Pirelli logos on their vehicles and other sponsorship activities. A substantial cost, but a necessary one. Yet Germany’s auto, motor und sport writes that as of 11 March, three F1 teams had yet to pay Pirelli for the season that’s about to start.

Pirelli announces first four GP F1 tyre nominations
Pirelli has announced the first set of tyre nominations for the 2015 Formula One season, as promised on Monday after the conclusion of pre-season testing. Using the P Zero White medium compound tyre at all of the first four grands prix, the exclusive F1 tyre supplier will also bring the P Zero Yellow soft tyre to Australia, China and Bahrain, and the P Zero Orange hard tyre to Malaysia’s abrasive Sepang circuit. The P Zero Red supersoft will have to wait until later in the season to be deployed – possibly at the road race GPs.

Bridgestone renews MotoGP tyre supply deal – sort of
Michelin may be gearing up to supply the MotoGP series from 2016, but the Bridgestone name is currently still very much associated with the top-flight championship. The Japanese manufacturer reports that through a new agreement with BMW M, it will supply tyres for all MotoGP safety and medical vehicles.

1-2 seconds faster lap times for Pirelli’s 2015 F1 tyres
Formula One has completed its pre-season testing schedule, with Pirelli’s P Zero and Cinturato tyres improving lap times by one-to-two seconds. The full range of P Zero slick compounds was tested at Barcelona, and while the Cinturato Blue full wet was unused, the Cinturato Green got some limited track time in brief rain showers. Pirelli Motorsport director Paul Hembery believes that most of the teams “are already well-prepared for the season ahead,” compared to 2014, with “significantly quicker” cars likely to become even faster in hotter track conditions when the season starts.

Bridgestone’s X30 tested by UK motocross stars
A number of big motocross names have visited Worcester’s Apex Motocross to try Bridgestone’s new X30 tyre. Multiple British champion Paul Malin appeared as a star guest, with guest appearances by Motors TV commentator Amy Dargan and Bike Channel presenter Suzy Taylor. Two Kawasaki KX250Fs and a pair of Kawasaki KX450s were available to ride on the day, and the tyre was given a tricky workout in torrential rain. The manufacturer will add the new X20 soft terrain tyre to its 2015 motocross range in April.
