Hankook enters fifth year of DTM partnership at Hockenheimring
2 May sees the beginning of the 2015 DTM season at the Hockenheimring, marking the fifth year of Hankook’s tyre supply to the championship. The brand’s presence in top line German motorsport has functioned as a component of its process of premiumisation – not only has the manufacturer been producing high specification track tyres accepted by DTM; it has been able to function as an exclusive tyre partner with Audi, BMW and Mercedes-Benz within the series.

Pirelli has claimed its best overall result on a rally since returning to the World Rally Championship last year. Martin Prokop – equalling his own best-ever career result – claimed fourth place, while in the WRC2 category Qatari driver Abdulaziz Al Kawari claimed victory. Simone Tempestini claimed the Production category too, ensuring a win for Pirelli in all the main support categories and the top results for privateer drivers: the focus of Pirelli’s World Rally Championship campaign this year.

Seven tractor-driving finalists in the European Drivers Challenge have been invited to the Michelin Technical Innovation Centre Test Circuit in Ladoux, France to demonstrate how best practice can affect tractor performance. Each participant will get his own John Deere 6215R AutoPowr tractor, pulling a heavy 20t Joskin two axle trailer. The tractors will be equipped with Michelin MachXBib tyres, with trailers featuring Michelin CargoXBib High Flotation tyres. The participants will be challenged to select their own strategy of tractor settings and tyre inflation pressures.

The first round of the British Drift Championship took place at Lydden Hill last weekend, and at the end of the two days Keeber sat in joint 9th place on the Pro Class table.

French motorcycle racer Sylvain Barrier has been hired as test rider for Michelin in the run up to the company’s debut as sole MotoGP tyre supplier in 2016. Speaking with Crash.net, Barrier confirmed he is the tyre maker’s official rider and now working with Michelin on the MotoGP tyre project. “Im doing some development work. I work with them for many years and they really like the way I speak about the tyres.”

Unlike the last two years though, the blue and yellow Aston Martin V12 Vantage GT3 with the new BILSTEIN 4-way MDS motorsport suspension is targeting overall victory this time around.

Around one year ago, Bridgestone entered into a technical partnership with Belgian motorcycle brand Saroléa, designer of the Saroléa SP7 electric superbike. The tyre maker delivered technical support and tyre expertise for the manufacturer’s track testing and racing ambitions, which last year included the TT Zero Challenge at the Isle of Man TT series. Saroléa finished fourth at its debut appearance, and in 2015 will again look to Bridgestone for further expertise.

The weekend’s round at Silverstone marked the start of Hankook Tire’s fourth year as official tyre supplier of the Formula 3 European Championship. The current season consists of 11 rounds and a total of 33 races, and will see competitors take to the track on the Ventus F200 slick and Ventus Z207 wet surface tyres. Hankook says this rubber – which it developed exclusively for the championship – has been ‘enhanced’ for the new season.

Building on the success of the European Seat Leon Eurocup, which uses Yokohama Advan racing slick and wet control tyres, the new-for-2015 Seat Supercup Ireland has followed suit, adopting the Japanese manufacturer as control tyre supplier for the ten-round series. The series will be supported by Yokohama’s Irish dealer, Murray Motorsport, which will not only provide the tyres each team is permitted for each race meeting but will also supply parts from Seat Sport.
