Pirelli made sole tyre supplier in new FIA GT World Cup
Pirelli will supply the tyres to all five manufacturers aiming to become the first ever winner of the FIA GT World Cup. Taking place on 22 November next weekend through the streets of Macau, the inaugural FIA GT World Cup has attracted a 24-car line-up of GT3 machines. The showdown will take place with a 12-lap qualification race on Saturday November 21 and then the World Cup will be decided with an 18-lap (91.8-kilometre) race around the famous Guia Circuit in Macau the next day.

The company heads to the Chinese administrative territory as exclusive supplier to the F3 race for the 33rd consecutive year in 2015.

Twenty years after Colin McRae sealed the FIA World Rally Championship title, a Subaru Impreza emblazoned with the Scot’s iconic livery and equipped with Dmack tyres finished as the top production class car on Wales Rally GB. David Higgins and Craig Drew romped home on their home round of the WRC as part of the anniversary celebrating McRae’s achievement. Seven-time Rally America champion Higgins has won two titles on Dmack tyres with his Subaru USA team and topped the class using Dmack’s DMG+2 gravel tyre.

Michelin’s Pilot Sport EV has helped Formula E to overcome difficult weather conditions in Putrajaya, Malaysia, despite temperatures in excess of 30°C, a track temperature of almost 50°C and humidity levels of between 60 and 90 per cent. Round 2 of the 2015/2016 Formula E ePrix featured the same format as 2014, with a 12-turn, 2.5km track and the start brought forward by two hours to 2:04pm local time in order to minimise the threat of wet weather. Torrential rain swept over the city an hour after the chequered flag was shown. The hot, damp conditions made the day hard not only for the drivers, but also for the battery of their all-electric single-seater racing cars.

Pirelli has nominated its most popular combination of Formula One tyres, the P Zero White medium and P Zero Yellow soft, for this year’s Brazilian grand prix. It is the ninth time this combination has been brought to a race weekend, and the short intense Interlagos lap will provide plenty of work for the tyres, and the drivers, to do. The track which proceeds in an unusual anti-clockwise direction, was relaid in 2014, changing its levels of abrasion, while the circuit also has a new pit complex. Pirelli expects a performance gap between the two compounds of around 0.9 seconds per lap.

Nico Rosberg won the first Mexican Grand Prix in 23 years from pole with a two-stop strategy. Using soft-medium-medium Pirelli tyres, he beat his teammate Lewis Hamilton to secure a 10th one-two of the season for Mercedes. Rosberg also moved back to second in the driver points standings. Behind them, race strategies were affected by a safety car with just 20 laps to go. This effectively allowed a ‘free’ pit stop, which meant that those contemplating another stop could do so without a big penalty.

Pirelli has renewed its exclusive contract with the national Formula 4 and GT championships in Italy. Both championships will continue to use only Pirelli tyres throughout the 2016 and 2017 seasons, at a variety of circuits all over Italy. In order to keep the championship simple and cost effective, making driving talent the key factor, Pirelli will supply only two types of tyre for all races: 13” P Zero DM slicks and Cinturato WM wets.
