Pirelli-equipped British GT to take on Rockingham challenge
Pirelli’s exclusive supply deal with the British GT Championship enters its second round on the high-speed banked oval and twisty infield of Northamptonshire’s Rockingham circuit on 30-31 April. Record-breaking lap times were set on the new P Zero rubber at the season’s curtain-raiser at Brands Hatch, with Derek Johnston and Jonny Adam claiming victory and an early GT3 championship lead in their TF Sport Aston Martin Vantage GT3. Competition was fiercer, with Bentley, Lamborghini and BMW making it four different manufacturers in the top four in the race.

Ten crews representing 12 different countries will line up for the start of the third edition of the Drive Dmack Fiesta Trophy at Rally de Portugal next month. Continuing the successful format, competitors will battle behind the wheel of identical Ford Fiesta R2T rally cars built by M-Sport and powered by Ford’s 1.0 EcoBoost turbo-charged engine. They will use Dmack’s latest gravel and asphalt rally tyres.

The FIA World Endurance Championship 2016 season begins with the 6 Hours of Silverstone, and will be the first at which Michelin Motorsport’s newest endurance slicks will be used. The tyre supplier said it has focused its efforts for 2016 on the development of products for its LM P2 partners; the tyres were tested pre-season test at Le Castellet, France, last month. Michelin added that some changes have also been made to its wet tyres.

Under the 2016 tyre regulations, Formula One teams have some control over the mix of the three compounds available to them at each weekend. Out of the 13 sets, Pirelli decides on two sets for the race, and provides one set of the softest available tyre exclusively for Q3. The other ten sets are chosen by the teams, and passed to Pirelli before a deadline ahead of each race weekend. The FIA has communicated to Pirelli each team’s tyre choices for the forthcoming Bahrain Grand Prix, displayed in the infographic below.

One of the most enduring partnerships in motorsport, Dunlop says its link with the BTCC allows it to continue its support of grassroots racing. The manufacturer signed an agreement with TOCA until at least the end of 2021 at the end of the 2015 season.

Hankook is now the exclusive tyre partner to the Campionato Italiano Turismo (Italian Touring Car Championship). The tyre maker says its partnership with the brand new championship takes effect immediately and will be maintained for the “next couple of years.” The 2016 Campionato Italiano Turismo season commences in Monza on 22 May and incorporates seven race weekends. All of the 2.0 litre, 4 cylinder turbocharged saloons racing in the series will compete on Hankook Ventus Race tyres in size 260/660 R 18.
