Dmack team crowned BRC champions following Manx Victory
Dmack’s dominant one-two victory on Rally Isle of Man, the final round of the MSA British Rally Championship, gave the team a victory lap, having clinched the championship title on the previous event. Elfyn Evans and Craig Parry rounded off their season with their fifth victory from seven rallies, finishing only 5.9 seconds ahead of team-mates Mark Higgins and Darren Garrod. Both crews took wins on 16 of the event’s 20 special stages. The double podium ensured the BRC Teams Championship trophy for the Dmack team, while Dmack runners also won the overall, BRC1, BRC2 and Junior BRC classes. The Michelin shod team of Tom Cave and James Morgan, and Pirelli runners Jonathan Greer and Kirsty Riddick finished on the championship’s second and third podium steps respectively.

A solid performance saw Dmack World Rally Teams Ott Tänak equal his best finish on the Tour de Corse as Dmack tackled the arduous asphalt conditions on Corsica for the first time. Round 11 of the FIA World Rally Championship was the final all-tarmac event, with Dmacks DMT-RC2 tyre improving on the firms debut outing in Corsica. With limited experience on asphalt, Dmack played its joker to introduce a new range of tyres at Rally Germany in August. They helped Tänak set top-three stage times.

The 1986 edition of the Motocross of Nations marked the beginning of the modern era of motocross, and 30 years later the MXoN was back on the historic ‘Mottaccio del Balmone’ track in Maggiora, attended by more than 40,000 fans on the hill at the foot of the small town in Piemonte. The national teams selected three riders each to compete for the prestigious ‘Chamberlain Trophy’. On a track characterized by a medium-hard soil, Pirelli’s riders fitted the Scorpion MX32 Mid Soft that, both front and rear, and the tyre manufacturer said it demonstrated their high level of performance.

Jake Dennis claimed his maiden victory in the Pirelli-backed GP3 Series in the first race at Monza last weekend, with compatriots Jack Aitken and Jake Hughes joining him on an all-British podium. Dennis had been pipped to pole position at the classic Italian circuit by championship leader Charles Leclerc, but was able to pass the Monaco driver for the lead after a few laps. One lap later, Dennis’ team-mate at the Arden squad Jack Aitken – fresh from his first win at Spa-Francorchamps a weekend earlier – moved past Leclerc to take second.

The Dutch-based Supercar Challenge powered by Pirelli raced at Snetterton for the first time last weekend, with a Mosler and a Radical driven to outright victories at the Norfolk circuit. The first race took place entirely in very wet conditions. The Radical RXC led early on in the hands of Tom Ashton, but he was soon passed by the Mosler MT900 of Daniel Campos Hull, who handed over to Kosta Kanaroglou on the car’s route to a dominant victory. With the Radical forced to retire, Tim Grey and Oliver Hewitt finished second in their Praga R1T while the Supersport class-winning SEAT of Dennis Houweling and Aart Jan Ringelberg was third. Jos Jansen (Porsche 997 Cup) and Niels Kool (BMW 135i) won the GTB and Sport divisions respectively.

Stephen Petch took victory in the Woodpecker Stages Rally, but it was fellow Pirelli driver Charlie Payne that wrapped up the BTRDA Rally Series crown. Petch took the lead on the second stage and remained out front until the finish of the Ludlow-based gravel event, triumphing by eight seconds alongside Michael Wilkinson in their Ford Fiesta R5+.

Pirelli will supply its softer rear (SC0) Pirelli Diablo Slick, expecting it to be the popular choice should conditions stay dry, on Oulton Park’s flowing, smooth asphalt. At the front, riders will have a choice of the softer SC1 tyre, or the harder SC2 favoured by the recent Cadwell Park winner Leon Haslam.

At the Grand Prix of Americas, riders on Pirelli motocross tyres have been crowned the new World Champions in MXGP and MX2 classes. Tim Gajser and Jeffrey Herlings sealed the titles with one race to go, bringing Pirelli’s haul of titles in motocross up to 66. The Charlotte Motor Speedway hosted the seventeenth and penultimate round of the 2016 championship, though Hurricane Hermine forced organisers to condense the Grand Prix of the Americas on Saturday.

The FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC) season midpoint race provided more exciting racing and wins, podiums and championship improvements for several Dunlop teams. The six hour race brought reasons to celebrate particularly for Aston Martin Racing who now lead the GT Manufacturers’ Endurance Cup, and the new-for-2016 RGR Sport team who won their home race. Showers during the race added to the race tensions but gave all three classes the opportunity to use the versatile Dunlop intermediate option.
