Hankook tyre supplier to Supercar Challenge
Starting immediately, Hankook Tire has become exclusive tyre supplier to a Dutch racing Series. The company says its supply to the ‘Supercar Challenge powered by Hankook’, as it is known, is a long-term arrangement. The 2017 season of the Supercar Challenge begins on 14 April at Zandvoort. Races will be held on eight weekends at venues in Germany, the Netherlands, Great Britain, Belgium and Austria.

Kumho Tyre Australia will continue as the naming rights partner and official control tyre supplier of the Australian V8 Touring Car Series for a further three years, through to the end of the 2019 season. Kumho and V8 Touring Car organisers will also work closely to finalise an 18-inch tyre specification for the series, with a view to introducing the 18-inch wheels currently used in Supercar and Development Series competition into the category in 2019. The series will run on the current 17-inch rim until the end of the 2018 season.

Aston Martin Racing has claimed two titles at the 6 Hours of Bahrain FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC) season finale in its first season working with Dunlop. Nicki Thiim and Marco Sørensen won the FIA World Endurance Cup for GT Drivers, while the team was victorious in the FIA World Endurance Trophy for GTE Pro Teams.

Toyo Tires has lent its support and tyres to the Mission Motorsport team competing in the Race of Remembrance event at Anglesey circuit. As the name implies, Race of Remembrance sees ex-service personnel and veterans competing a 1,000km endurance event at the notoriously demanding North Wales track. Toyo supplied the Milltek Sport/Mission Motorsport/KPM Racing MkVII Golf R, which was piloted by British Olympian Sir Chris Hoy; British Paralympian Jon-Allen Butterworth; GT racer, Tom Onslow-Cole; Paul White; and Jade Edwards.

The FIA has told Pirelli each team’s tyre choices for the season closing grand prix of Abu Dhabi on 25-27 November. Championship leader Nico Rosberg and second-placed Mercedes teammate Lewis Hamilton, who has a chance of pipping the German to victory, will both use the same selection: four sets of the P Zero Yellow soft, two of the Red supersoft, and seven of the Purple ultrasoft.

Despite the delays, the Brazilian grand prix became a “fantastic spectacle,” with plenty of overtaking and action on Pirelli’s wet range of Formula One tyres. Mercedes’ Lewis Hamilton finished first, completing the full race on the Cinturato Blue full wet tyre only following two days of largely dry running at Interlagos. Hamilton won without making a racing pit stop, though he did change tyres twice, going from full wets to another set of wets under both red flag stoppages.

Jon-Allan Butterworth, fresh from his Paralympic successes at Rio will be joined by Sir Chris Hoy as team mate in a VW Golf racecar prepared by Milltek Sport, Strata 21 and KPM Racing.

Dunlop-shod Signatech Alpine became 2016 FIA World Endurance (WEC) LMP2 champions at 6 Hours of Shanghai, the penultimate round of the championship, having finished fourth. The race was won by G-Drive Racing, also on Dunlop rubber, in its second consecutive victory. Additionally the ByKolles CLM claimed its first win of 2016 in the LMP1 Privateer class.

Toyo’s new full slick competition tyre, the Proxes RS1, was launched in the UK in time for the 2015 season. Its two 15” sizes (195/570R15 and 205/580R15) were joined by the larger 235/620R17, and now Toyo has added two 18” fitments to the range, 245/640R18 and 285/680R18. Toyo states that the tyre is its model for a large and growing market for specialist slick tyres, primarily amongst those that regularly attend track days or participate in club-level motorsport.
