Pirelli increases presence at Autosport International
Pirelli showcased the broad variety of its global motorsport programme from the largest stand it has ever presented at Autosport International at the 2018 edition of the show. Pirelli’s head of car racing Mario Isola, who heads up the company’s Formula One programme, visited the show along with around 100,000 other visitors over the course of the weekend.

From this year, the World Touring Car Championship will be run according to TCR technical regulations, and has been renamed WTCR – the FIA World Touring Car Cup. Yokohama Advan racing tyres have been adoped as control tyre for the WTCR races to be run in 2018–19. Under the two-year contract, Yokohama Rubber will provide its Advan A005 dry-surface tyre and Advan A006 wet-surface tyre; both will be supplied in size 250/660R18.

Toyo Tire & Rubber Co kicked off its year at the annual Tokyo Auto Salon in mid-January at Makuhari Messe in Chiba City. Exhibiting its eponymous and Nitto brands, the tyre manufacturer presented its motorsport pedigree with guests Ken Block and BJ Baldwin, while Toyo Tires president, Takashi Shimizu, and managing director, Tomoshige Mizutani, were on hand to talk about the company’s history and North American automobile culture.

As part of a new, multi-year partnership with US-based rallycross series Red Bull Global Rallycross (GRC), Continental is developing its very first rallycross tyres. The partnership between GRC and Continental Tire the Americas gets under way in 2018 and will see Continental serve as exclusive tyre provider for competitors in the Supercars, GRC Lites and Polaris RZR categories of the GRC, was well as to the e-GRC electric series that is scheduled to debut in 2019. Continental replaces BFGoodrich as official GRC tyre supplier.

On Saturday, Eduard Nikolaev’s crew from the KAMAZ-Master team crossed the Dakar Rally 2018 finish line in Cordoba, Argentina to take first place in the event’s truck category. The crew finished nearly four hours ahead of the nearest competition, having completed the rally’s 14 stages in 54 hours, 57 minutes and 37 seconds. Although KAMAZ-Master failed to replicate the one-two finish it secured in the truck category last year, it ended proceedings in the 40th anniversary event with another win for Nikolaev and a third-place finish for Airat Mardeev and his Kamaz-Master crew.

Yokohama announced that it has been selected as the official tyre supplier to the TCR UK series at the 2018 Autosport International show, which continues over this weekend. The manufacturer expects the new touring car series to attract a great deal of attention from both teams and fans, with plenty of action-packed wheel to wheel racing a hallmark of touring car series. Several TCR series run around the globe, and the top competitors in the seven-event UK series are expected to join a global event towards the end of the season. TCR UK commences at Silverstone circuit on 31 March.
