“Boring” F1 tyres should be replaced with Avon or Goodyear – David Coulthard
13-time Grand Prix winner David Coulthard has slammed the current generation of Formula One tyres, which are supplied by Pirelli. Speaking in an interview with RaceFans.net, Coulthard said Pirelli era tyres resulted in boring races: “This whole Pirelli era is just confusing to me and boring to me to have to talk about, and super-boring for me to have to listen to the drivers going ‘I was trying to avoid pushing too hard on the tyres’.”

Yokohama is supplying its Advan racing tyres to seven cars entered by four teams in the 49th Nürburgring 24-Hour Endurance Race (3-6 June). Supported teams include Walkenhorst Motorsport, a BMW customer racing team that entered into a partnership agreement with Yokohama Rubber last year. Four Walkenhorst machines will run on Advan tyres, including three BMW M6 GT3 cars competing in the top-level SP9 class. The cars will use the Advan A005 for dry conditions and the A006 for wet conditions.

Toyo Tire is heading to the Nürburgring for the 49th ADAC Total 24H Race on 3-6 June 2021. The Japanese tyre manufacturer will supply specially developed tyres to Novel Racing, following up its entry in the delayed 2020 edition of the race for which it signed a partnership agreement with Toyo. Toyo developed its new rubber for Novel’s Lexus RC F and Toyota Supra GT4, entries tuned by Nürburgring based Ring Racing, which has been building cars for the circuit for more than a decade.

A new test by German motorcycle magazine PS has declared Dunlop the top slick track tyre following an extensive test. The magazine chose the Dunlop KR106 (front) and KR108 (rear) pairing as the overall winner in its comparison of seven different track tyres. The PS test crew used a Honda Fireblade SP at Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya, home of MotoGP’s Catalan Grand Prix. The results were published in PS (6/2021) as part of its Pro-Slick Test feature.

Falken Motorsports will continue its unbroken run of appearances since 1999 at the ADAC TOTAL 24h Race on the Nürburgring-Nordschleife in two identical Porsche 911 GT3 R. On 3-6 June 2021, the tyre brand’s motorsport team will contest the formidable endurance race with a top-class line-up of drivers. Lance David Arnold, Klaus Bachler, Thomas Preining and Dirk Werner will compete in the #33 car. Sven Müller, Alessio Picariello, Martin Ragginger and Klaus Bachler (again) will compete in the #44 car. Bachler is anticipating a busy weekend as he takes stints in both Falken cars.

Four Giti Tire cars have qualified for the 49th ADAC TOTAL 24h Race 2021 at the Nürburgring (3-6 June). The tyre manufacturer will compete in a fifth straight year and its third with the pioneering #gitiracing all-female team. This season all cars will run on GitiCompete GTR1 tyres, part of Giti’s comprehensive global range of competition racing tyres. Giti says its technology findings are adapted to further develop its everyday portfolios.

Giti Tire kicked off its 2021 Fun Cup Endurance Championship season with two racing icons in GT Radial car number 97. John McGuiness, part of the Honda TT Legends race team and best known for his 23 Isle of Man victories and 47 podiums, and Steve Peat, renowned multiple World and British Downhill Mountain Bike Champion swapped two wheels for four at the four-hour endurance race at Donington. The company has also added a new Giti branded vehicle to the grid, a joint entry with GT Radial Performance Centre (GTPC) partner MJ Tec from Stratford-upon-Avon.
