Goodyear 125th anniversary: tyre maker unveils retro branding at Donington BTCC
Goodyear will celebrate its rich history in motorsport and transportation with historic branding at the British Touring Car Championship this weekend at Donington Park. The tyre manufacturer and supplier says the historic circuit, which first hosted a motorsport event in 1931, is a fitting venue to host one of several Goodyear 125th anniversary celebrations around the world.

Hankook will showcase its iON range of specialist electric vehicle tyres at the London EV Show (28-30 November, ExCel London, Stand number ES11). The London EV Show is the largest international trade show and conference focused on the electric vehicle industry in Europe. Hankook launched the iON range in 2022, tyres with a technological emphasis on EVs leading to reduced rolling resistance, low noise, and high resilience. This means that compared to conventional tyres, the tyres offer increased range per battery charge. Hankook iON products are also designed for the high torque immediately produced by powerful electric vehicles. Overall this means a better driving experience for EV drivers.

Max and the Graves Motorsport team’s win came in the final race of the round when he finished in second position before being promoted to the win after contact between the early race leaders was reviewed and penalties applied.

Two Goodyear associates based in Luxembourg have been killed in a vehicle incident at the Nürburgring on 9 August. Tyrepress understands from test industry sources that 39-year-old driver Christian Franck, a popular member of the tyre testing community and title-winning motorsport driver from Luxembourg, is one of the deceased. Goodyear told Tyrepress that it is assisting local authorities with their investigation into the incident. Goodyear representatives added that the company is “deeply saddened” that its associates had lost their lives and that its “immediate concern” is for the family, friends, and colleagues of its associates.

The FIA, World Rally Championship promoter and Pirelli are discussing the opportunity to make more diverse and challenging race strategies by enforcing the use of option tyres in future rallies. The tyre supplier revealed the plan following a Rally Finland won by British driver Elfyn Evans after a dramatic Friday in which many pre-rally favourites were eliminated. Pirelli said its Scorpion soft tyres performed reliably well, with all drivers (except Teemu Suninen on Sunday morning) using identical strategies to capitalise on its strength versus the option tyre.

Two of Hankook’s top executives travelled to the UK to witness the end of the ninth season of Formula E, for which the tyre manufacturer is the exclusive supplier. Sanghoon Lee, president & COO, Hankook Tire Europe, and Jeongho Park, executive vice president & CMO Hankook, joined the Formula E management and all 22 drivers for an official photo, while Jeongho Park also presented the winner’s trophy to the victorious Jaguar TCS Racing team after driver Mitch Evans’ victory the first race of the weekend on Saturday.

Jake Dennis won his first Formula E title in the Avalanche Andretti Formula E after claiming second place in the first race of the Hankook London E-Prix double-header. The British racer made it onto the podium eleven times over the course of the season but was particularly successful when the series’ tyre supplier Hankook was the event title sponsor: Dennis won the season-opener at the Hankook Mexico City E-Prix and the Sunday race at the Hankook Rome E-Prix. Dennis was crowned the first British champion of Formula E in nine seasons at his home race.

Drivers from the Caterham Graduates Racing Club were welcomed to the events in 2023 following the Club’s move to Toyo Tires at the start of the season. Now, Caterham Roadsport, Seven 270R and Seven 310R Championships will all roll on the Toyo R888R, helping to extend more racing opportunities to the Caterham racing community.
