Evergreen and Grouptyre supported grassroots racer Dan Zelos recently scored a podium double at his home race in the 2014 Ginetta Junior Championship at Snetterton. After lapping an excellent fourth-quickest amongst the 19 high-calibre contenders during practice, the gifted Norfolk rookie replicated that stellar form to line up on the second row of the grid for both races in his distinctive JHR Developments-run, Evergreen Tyres-sponsored Ginetta G40 – the best combined qualifying effort of his fledgling car racing career to-date.

Using Pirelli tyres, Steve Perez dominated the Trackrod Forest Stages rally in Yorkshire to put himself firmly in contention for the 2014 BTRDA Rally Series title. The Chesterfield driver, whose ex-Marcus Gronholm Ford Focus WRC07 ran on Pirelli rubber, put his stamp on the Pickering-based event where main title rival Paul Bird finished second, just 3.4 seconds behind.

With the introduction of its latest drive axle tyre, Michelin has become the first tyre maker to offer tyres with an ‘A’ label rating for rolling resistance on all truck axle positions. The tyre maker now calls its X Line Energy line-up – of which more than 200,000 units have been sold since its introduction in January 2013 – its “triple A” range. The latest additions to the X Line Energy range are on display at the IAA Commercial Vehicles show in Germany this coming week.

Mercedes’ Lewis Hamilton used a three-stop strategy to win in Singapore. After three stints on the P Zero Red supersoft, Hamilton completed the race on the P Zero Yellow soft. Hamilton was challenged by Red Bull’s Sebastian Vettel, running a two-stop strategy from fourth on the grid. Vettel did two opening stints on the supersoft and then a final stint on the soft at the end of the grand prix, when the car was at its lightest on low fuel. His team-mate Daniel Ricciardo followed the same strategy to finish third in front of the Ferrari of Fernando Alonso.

Having signed David Coulthard as its brand ambassador for ultra-high performance tyres a year ago, Cooper Tire has extended its relationship with the Scottish motorsport dynasty. Coulthard’s nephew, Murray Coulthard will complete the rest of his Scottish Tarmac Rally Championship (STRC) season on Avon Tyres. Murray drives a 1984 Vauxhall Nova and fit Avon ZZR rubber for the first time at the Solway Coast Rally, winning his class first time out. He will now switch to Avon Tyres for the remainder of the season.

Both the hard ‘H4’ and softer ‘S4’ versions of the Michelin LTX Force gravel tyre have now enjoyed a taste of WRC action. The tyre maker reports that all WRC teams ran the Michelin LTX Force during the 2014 Rally Australia on the weekend, fielding at various times the S4 – which also hit the gravel during 2014 Rally Finland – and, for the first time, the H4. The Australian round was won by Sébastien Ogier and Julien Ingrassia in their Volkswagen Polo R WRC; the pair shared the podium with team mates Jari-Matti Latvala and Miikka Anttila along with Andreas Mikkelsen and Ola Floene in a 1-2-3 Volkswagen clean sweep.

The UK’s Graham Holt has won this year’s Bridgestone MotoGP photo contest. Holt’s picture, which shows Jorge Lorenzo and Valentino Rossi riding on a total of two wheels, was singled out by the judging panel as it “managed to capture the spirit camaraderie and competition as well as the technical skill and prowess” of the two riders. Second place went to Germany’s Friedrich Weisse, while Marco Guidetti from Italy was voted third. The top 20 entries were on display during the 2014 Misano Grand Prix.
