Goodyear signs tyre supply deal with Masters
Several Masters Historic Racing series will compete on Goodyear and Dunlop tyres under a new long-term tyre supply agreement between the tyre maker and UK-based race organiser. Goodyear says this agreement builds on longstanding relationships between Masters and its Dunlop and Avon brands and marks the reintroduction of the Goodyear name into several championships, including events for Formula 1 and 24 Hours of Le Mans cars.

Yokohama Tire has renewed its partnership with the United States Auto Club (USAC) as the official tyre partner and presenting sponsor of the Porsche Sprint Challenge North America and USA for the 2024 season. The renewal means next year’s challenge will be the fourth consecutive season with competitors using Yokohama rubber. Yokohama will supply its Advan A005 racing slicks and Advan A006 rain tyres. The North America series visits seven tracks for its 14 rounds, while the USA West schedule features 12 rounds at six different tracks.

Hankook concluded its first FIA Junior European Rally Championship (JERC) season at Rally Hungary at the start of October. After success on the final special stage, Romanian siblings Norbert and Frencesca Maior secured both their first win of the season and the European rally championship for juniors. The JERC has been an important pillar in developing younger rally drivers. Four different manufacturers from the Rally4 class feature in the championship, supplying production-based, front-wheel drive cars generating roughly 210 hp. All cars start on Hankook tyres.

Formula One is sticking with Pirelli as tyre supplier for the 2025 to 2027 seasons, but Bridgestone comments that both the Federation Internationale de lAutomobile (FIA) and Formula One Group (FOG) responded favourably to its proposed “advanced innovative technology and sustainability initiatives.” Furthermore, the Japanese manufacturer doesn’t rule out throwing its hat into the F1 ring at a later date.

Pirelli is celebrating a successful 2023 season in European rally after Mads Ostberg claimed victory in Hungary in his Citroen C3, shod with Scorpion rally tyres. Pirelli is the only tyre-maker of the four suppliers to the European Rally Championship to have seen victories claimed on all surfaces through the season, with its runners achieving podium finishes at every meeting. Hayden Paddon had already claimed the title with two races to spare on Pirelli rubber. 55 of 106 special stages were also won on Pirelli tyres.

Ash Sutton is a record-equalling four-time Kwik Fit British Touring Car Champion – the youngest driver ever to do so – after the NAPA Racing UK star clinched the crown with two wins around the legendary Brands Hatch GP circuit on 8 October. The 29-year-old claimed a record matching six pole positions and 12 race wins during the campaign, as Sutton also became the first driver to claim the title in both rear-wheel and front-wheel-drive machinery.

Continental Tyres is supporting “global nomad” Bobby Bolton in his attempt to drive his converted MAN truck 10,000 miles from the UK to Australia. Conti has fitted four off-road optimised HCS tyres to the truck and installed the ContiPressureCheck tyre pressure monitoring system and ContiConnect digital tyre management system, enabling remote monitoring of temperatures and pressures. Bolton will travel through more than 25 countries with his Labrador, Red, on their journey. Bolton has documented on his social media channels the preparation of his 18-tonne, four-wheel-drive overland-style truck for the hostile terrain it will encounter on the journey south. The travellers will use the load bed of the former water bowser as accommodation while on the road.

Walkenhorst Motorsport’s Advan-liveried #34 BMW M4 GT3 running on Yokohama’s Advan A005 (dry) and A006 (wet) tyres claimed first place in Round 8 of the 2023 Nürburgring Endurance Series (NLS) on 23 September. Driven by Christian Krognes and Jakub Giermaziak, the team qualified fifth and took the lead around the race’s midpoint, widening the gap with the rest of the field before taking the checkered flag more than two minutes ahead of the second-place car.

There was a double win for Nicolò Bulega (Aruba.it Racing WorldSSP Team) with the WorldSSP Championship title becoming closer. The WorldSSP300 victory went to Jeffrey Buis (MTM Kawasaki), who also claimed first place in the 300 standings. Tyre supplier Pirelli’s SC1 front and SCX rear were used by almost all the riders on the starting grid
