The Mickey Thompson brand specialises in off-road orientated 4x4 products and came to Goodyear in the last couple of years as a result of the company’s acquisition of Cooper.

Hankook Tire signs Eco-SSBR MoU with Kumho Petrochemical
To aid its development of eco-friendly tyres, Hankook Tire & Technology has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with petrochemical company Kumho Petrochemical Co., Ltd. (KKPC). Amongst other things, the MoU ensures Hankook Tire is first in line to receive KKPC’s Eco Solution-polymerised Styrene-Butadiene Rubber (Eco-SSBR) at “a fair price” once commercial its production commences in 2026.

Yokohama “eliminates” fake wheels in China
The Yokohama Rubber Co. Ltd. says it has eliminated “counterfeit versions of the company’s aluminum wheels in China”. Yokohama Rubber filed an administrative complaint and submitted information to the Administration for Market Regulation in Foshan, Guangdong Province, regarding five companies engaged in the distribution of counterfeit sports car aluminium wheels imitating Yokohama’s ADVAN Racing wheels. The distributors were selling the counterfeit wheels via internet shopping sites and retail shops outside of the company’s official distribution channels.

TBC Corporation sells 595 NTB and Tire Kingdom centres to Mavis
TBC Corporation, a leading tyre distributor in North America, has agreed to sell its company-owned retail portfolio to Mavis Tire Express Services Corp. Specifically, Mavis will acquire 392 NTB Tire and Service Centers (NTB) and 203 Tire Kingdom Service Centers (Tire Kingdom). In connection with the deal, Mavis and TBC have entered into a distribution agreement, through which TBC will provide wholesale and tyre distribution for Mavis retail locations. The transaction is expected to close in the coming weeks. Financial terms of the transaction have not been disclosed.

Tyrepress China learned that China’s Shandong Province exported 75.419 million new pneumatic rubber tyres in the first quarter, an increase of 11.1% over the same period last year. The total export value was 19.45 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 17.6%; the average export price was 257.9 yuan per tyre, a rise of 5.8%.

Departing a profitable market isn’t for everyone: Pirelli & C. reports that Russia accounted for “about 3.5 per cent” of its global revenues of 1,699.7 million euros in the first quarter of 2023, which means the tyre maker Q1 2023 revenues in Russia amounted to approximately 59.5 million. Not a colossal sum when compared with total sales, but nonetheless more than Pirelli made in that market in the first quarters of the two previous years.
