German consumer magazine makes Brembo Best Brake Brand 2024
Readers of Europe’s top car magazine, Auto Motor und Sport, have voted Brembo their favourite brake brand for the 11th time. The vote was part of Auto Motor und Sport’s prestigious Best Cars 2024 awards. Drivers, mostly from Germany, voted for the best brands in 26 product and service-related categories. Brembo swept the board in the Brakes/Brake Pads class, earning an overwhelming 72.7 per cent of the 92,798 votes submitted.

Below, we look at the big numbers from the March 2024 magazine. 1.2 million tonnes - The approximate tonnage of waste tyres imported annually by India, extrapolated from Indian Automotive Tyre Manufacturers’ Association (ATMA) figures covering the eight-month period April-November 2023, for which the UK is a primary source. Around 90 per cent of this total undergoes batch-pyrolysis, a method the UK’s Tyre Recovery Association considers “outdated” and “highly polluting”

The international automotive supplier Forvia Hella has received the John Deere Award in the sustainability category. The leading manufacturer of agricultural machinery honours Forvia Hella for its heat recovery system at the Großpetersdorf site in Austria. The system saves around 175,000 kilowatt hours of natural gas per year and therefore around 32,000 kilograms of CO2. The award was presented at the John Deere European Supplier Conference in March 2024 in Mannheim, Germany.

Steel wire and coating technologies firm Bekaert and Edison Next, the Edison Group company supporting customers with ecological transition and decarbonisation, have signed a 12-year on-site Power Purchase Agreement (PPA). This PPA will see the installation of a photovoltaic system with a total power of 6.1 MW at Bekaert’s plant in Sardinia, Italy. The 6.1 MW solar installation will be capable of meeting more than 20 per cent of the plants current energy requirements.

Aeolus Tyre Co. Ltd has dissolved its direct license contract with Pirelli Tyre S.p.A. for Industrial segment technology, replacing this agreement with one it signed with Prometeon Tyre Group S.r.l. (PTG) earlier in the month. According to the terms of the new agreement, Aeolus Tyre will receive patented and proprietary technology that Pirelli has licensed to PTG.

In the first two months of 2024, China’s tyre export data was surprisingly good. In the past few years, the arrival of the Lunar New Year holiday has occasionally caused a significant drop in exports in one month compared to the previous year. For example, in January 2023, the number of tyre exports fell by 15.2 per cent year-on-year. In February 2022, the number of tyre exports fell by 15.6 per cent.
