Continental is continuing to expand its cycle racing sponsorship remit. The Tour de France is set to begin on 29 June, and before then the company will step up as the official tyre partner and one of the five main sponsors of this year’s Giro d’Italia, which gets under way this coming Saturday.

The show is North Americas largest trade show that focuses on solid waste, recycling, organics, food waste recovery, and sustainability. “WasteExpo provides an important opportunity for BKT to share our offerings with North America’s solid waste and recycling industries,” says Chris Rhoades, vice president OTR at BKT USA.

Nokian Tyres has donated 200,000 euro to Aalto University School of Business in Finland. The donation will fund Nokian Tyres and Jukka Moisio scholarships for masters students going on exchange programs abroad. The funds will be donated in two equal instalments in 2024 and 2025. The donation marks president and CEO Jukka Moisio’s impending retirement from the board of directors of the Finnish tyre maker.

With Max Verstappen seemingly unstoppable, and already a two-time winner in Miami, Formula 1 exclusive tyre supplier Pirelli has found one way to bring some novelty to the podium at the Miami grand prix. Whichever three drivers take to the podium, they will wear a special edition of the Podium Cap Pirelli supplies to the top three finishers and the representative of the winning team. Pirelli says the turquoise cap is inspired by the waters that border the city’s beaches, featuring a stylised palm tree and the stars and stripes of the United States flag.

Apollo Tyres has announced a “significant partnership” with India’s National Automotive Test Tracks (NATRAX), one of the country’s leading providers of testing and validation services. The partners are establishing a test track for validating electric vehicle tyres and low rolling resistance tyres. According to Apollo Tyres, this dedicated testing facility for EV manufacturers is the first of its kind in India.

Linglong’s revenue in 2023 exceeded 20 billion yuan, and its net profit was close to 1.4 billion yuan. The tyre manufacturer produced 79.117 million tyres throughout the year, an increase of 20.4 per cent year-on-year. Among them, semi-steel tyres increased by 19.20 per cent, all-steel tyres increased by 30.79 per cent, and bias tyres decreased by 6.19 per cent.

In 2023, Sailun’s revenue reached 25.978 billion yuan (approximately £2.865 billion; €3.348 billion), a year-on-year increase of 18.61 per cent. In the past three years, Sailun’s revenue has achieved steady growth, from 17.998 billion yuan (approximately £1.985 billion; €2.319 billion) in 2021 to 21.902 billion yuan (approximately £2.415 billion; €2.822 billion) in 2022, and then last year’s 25.978 billion yuan. The annual growth is about 4 billion yuan.

The European Tyre and Rubber Manufacturers’ Association (ETRMA) has published its members’ Q1 2024 replacement tyre sales figures, and the general trend remains towards lower sales volumes. “The general inflationary context continues to affect the demand in all tyre product lines,” comments Adam McCarthy, ETRMA secretary general.
