TGI distributing Carlisle tyres in Latam, Caribbean
Tire Group International (TGI) and Carlstar Group have entered a distribution agreement that will allow TGI to distribute Carlisle branded tyres in Latin America and the Caribbean. TGI will offer both direct factory shipments as well as fill-in from its distribution centre in Miami, Florida.

Global rice paddy production amounts to around 700 million tonnes each year, and some 20 per cent of this total paddy weight is made up of rice husk, which is separated in the rice milling process and has traditionally been discarded by burning (including to generate electricity) or by dumping in landfill. But in recent times new uses have been found for this former waste. Goodyear Tire & Rubber, for example, has tested silica derived from rice husk ash over the past two years. The tyre maker has now reached a supply agreement with China’s Yihai Food and Oil Industry for silica derived from rice husk ash, and will begin manufacturing a tyre containing this silica at its Pulandian factory in China this year. The tyre will be sold in the Chinese domestic market.

In a bid to lead the row crop sector, Alliance Tire Group has introduced IF (Improved Flexion) and VF (Very improved flexion) low pressure Alliance 354 Agriflex and 354 Agriflex + (VF) narrow radials. According to the company, the tyres are designed with specific sidewall flexibility, enabling them to carry either the same loads as standard radial tractor tyres but at lower pressures or carry up to 20 per cent (IF) and 40 per cent (VF) heavier loads at the same pressure.

In March 2015, industrial tyre manufacturer Magna Tyres announced that Reifen Helm would complement existing wholesaler Interpneu by distributing the Magna and MTP tyre brands in northern Germany, and last month it shared news that Reifen Lorenz had taken on that role in parts of central and southern Germany. This morning the company shared that, effective June, Reifen Müller KG will also serve as a partner for Magna and OTP in central and southern Germany.

The US International Trade Commission (ITC) embarks on the final phase of its anti-dumping and countervailing hearings tomorrow (9 June 2015). This follows the July 2014 ITC decision that there is “a reasonable indication” of material injury to the US tyre industry by alleged Chinese government subsidies to tyre manufacturers.

On 20 May 2015, Uniroyal celebrated the golden anniversary of its ‘Giant Tire’. The 80 foot (24.4 metre) tall model tyre – the largest ever made – was feted by an event at its home in the Detroit suburb of Allen Park. The Giant Tire sits at the entrance to the site where the Uniroyal – now part of the Michelin Group – sales office was formerly located.
