Kreidel no longer Tire Factory CEO
The chief executive of the independent tyre dealer group positioned to carry the Point S flag in the USA has stepped down. US trade publication Tire Review reports that John Kreidel left Tire Factory due to “strategy differences”. Chief financial officer Walter Lybeck will stand in as interim CEO until the now vacant position can be filled, and Kreidel has agreed to assist Lybeck as needed for the coming three months.

Yokohama Russia L.L.C., the Russian tyre sales subsidiary of Japan’s Yokohama Rubber, will serve as an official partner and sponsor of the International Aviation and Space Salon (MAKS) 2015, which begins today (and opens to the public on 28 August) in the Russian city of Zhukovsky, near Moscow. Yokohama Rubber believes its participation as an official partner and sponsor of MAKS, one of the worlds largest aviation shows, will further advance the brand recognition of Yokohama tyres.

A change of date has been announced for the ‘Flex in the City’ seminar jointly organised by the European Tyre Recycling Association (ETRA) and two Italian organisations, ANTEL (the Italian National Association of Local Authority Technicians), and ARGO (the Italian Recyclers Association). Due to “circumstances beyond ETRA’s control,” the seminar will now take place in Treviso, Italy on 22 October rather than 23 October.

A politician has been ‘uninvited’ from visiting a Goodyear factory in the USA in order to prevent possible protests. Tim Kaine, senator for the state of Virginia, was scheduled to visit Goodyear Tire & Rubber’s Danville plant as part of a five-day tour of the state. However the senator, who advocates removing the Confederate flag from number plates issued in Virginia, was told it was best if he didn’t show up. Protesters, including those from the group ‘Southern Virginians for the Flag’, were waiting for him outside the Danville facility.

The Tire Retread & Repair Information Bureau says it will be present as an exhibitor at The Great American Trucking Show in Dallas, Texas from 27 to 29 August. The organisation views trades exhibitions such as this as “important opportunities to speak directly to end-users to showcase the benefits of retreaded tyres,” and during the show will display a large-screen version of its two latest videos (The Environmental Benefits of Retreading and The True Causes of Rubber on the Roads) and distribute copies of its 16-page ‘Understanding Retreading’ brochure.

Until this year, Continental only produced run-flat tyres at its Aachen and Korbach factories in Germany. However a couple of years ago the company saw a need to expand production of original equipment run-flats in response to growing demand from vehicle manufacturers, and at the end of 2013 the decision was taken to equip the Continental Matador Rubber factory in Púchov, Slovakia to make self-supporting run-flat, or SSR tyres.

Yokohama Tire Corporation (YTC) is ready to go golfing again. For the second consecutive year, the tyre maker’s US North American manufacturing and marketing operation is teaming up with the Robert Trent Jones (RTJ) Golf Trail and the Ladies Professional Golf Association (LPGA) to host the Yokohama Tire LPGA Classic. The 2015 tournament will be held between 27 and 30 August in the charming town of Prattville, Alabama. Defending champion Mi Jung Hur is expected to return, along with other top players from last year’s field, including Stacy Lewis, Brittany Lincicome, Cristie Kerr, Morgan Pressel, Chella Choi and Ai Miyazato.

Belshina JSC says it expects sales of its tyres in Pakistan this year will be double the level achieved in 2014. The Belarus-based tyre maker has been exporting to Pakistan since 2001 and in past years shipped 11,000 to 12,000 tyres a year to the country. Most of the tyres Belshina currently sells in Pakistan are agricultural tyres, however the company sees potential for greater volumes there, including sales of truck tyres.

Some 3,300 workers at Kumho Tire’s three South Korean factories went on strike yesterday to protest planned changes to the company’s wage structure. The eight-hour strike affected production at the Gwangju, Gokseong and Pyeongtaek plants and is said to have costed the tyre maker an estimated KRW 5.2 billion (£2.8 million) in lost sales.

Winning products include the Kama NR 202 (size 202 315/70 R22.5) and NF 202 (315/70 R22.5) truck tyres made by the Nizhnekamsk SSC Tire Factory and the Kama Euro 236 (sizes 185/60 R15 and 185/65 R15) passenger car tyres manufactured by Nizhnekamskshina.
