Omsk Carbon Germany renamed Omsk Carbon Europe
In 2012 Russia’s largest carbon black manufacturer, Omsk Carbon Group, established its first fully-owned subsidiary outside its home market by setting up Omsk Carbon Germany in Waltrop, North Rhine Westphalia. The German office has doubled its sales every year under the leadership of Rainer Jung and is now expanding its operations in Italy, France and the UK. To reflect this, Omsk Carbon Germany has been renamed Omsk Carbon Europe GmbH.

Being decades behind the times isn’t typically a good thing for a tyre maker, but this weekend is different – it is Labor Day weekend in the USA, and Goodyear is supplying a special ‘throwback’ version of its race tyres for the weekend’s NASCAR races at Darlington Raceway in South Carolina. The tyres form part of a broader throwback initiative at Darlington that will honour the track’s storied past in NASCAR racing during the course of the weekend. Many NASCAR teams and sponsors are also participating by running vintage-style paint schemes.

Vipal Erope reports that its VRT3 tread has demonstrated 8 per cent better mileage when tested against similar competitor treads. To make its point, Vipal used the streets of Puglianello, Italy to host a battery of tests in what the company describes as the first performance comparison in Europe. Such a claim must refer to the comparative testing of pre-cure retread material brands, as there have been numerous comparison tests between new tyres.

The company is called Luli Information Technology (路俪科技), and Michelin sees growth potential for the firm in what it believes will be a significant market for ridesharing – a concept the tyre maker views as a “key component of a multi modal transportation ecosystem for todays cities.”

Hankook could be the subject of the first strike action in its history after 86.3 per cent of its union members voted for industrial action, newspaper Korea Joongang Daily reports. The vote, with ballots cast by 4,430 out of 4,700 union members between 21 and 23 August, comes after management proposed an annual wage hike of 1 per cent.
