Nexen steps up to the plate for another year of baseball sponsorship
Another innings of Nexen Tire baseball sponsorship is about to begin: The tyre maker has renewed its partnership agreements with four Major League Baseball (MLB) teams in the US. It will thus continue its relationship with the LA Dodgers, Texas Rangers, Detroit Tigers and the LA Angels for the 2015 baseball season.

The latest generation Lexus RX was introduced at the New York International Auto Show this week, and Michelin says it will supply its Premier LTX as an original equipment fitment to North American market versions of the RX that ride on 18-inch (tyre size 235/65 R18) and 20-inch (tyre size 235/55R 20) rims.

Netherlands-based Event Tyres BV has revealed plans to launch three new products at the Autopromotec exhibition in Bologna, Italy in May. The new products are called the Futurum, Semita and Potentum and are aimed at high performance, SUV and UHP orientated vehicles respectively. With Autopromotec less than two months away, Tyres & Accessories spoke with Eddy Oost, managing director of Event Tyre BV, in order to find out more about the products and the company’s broader expansion strategy.

The Belshina tyre plant is scheduled to re-start production today (1 April 2015) after production ceased on 26 March, according to the Belarusian Independent Trade Union various (BITU), in a move that is seen as indicative of wider economic concerns and is blamed on low-cost Asian tyre imports. Artur Mikhalap, BITU chairman, commented: “The plant stopped completely, reason unknown to me, but the thinking is the same as in most enterprises - no market. Warehouses are filled up. According to my information the plant stopped only for five days, until April 1.

France is a market of growing importance to Heuver Tyrewholesale, and the wholesaler says it has been particularly successful with the Aeolus truck tyre range there. Its distribution of these products will now speed up with the opening of Heuver Tyrewholesale’s own French distribution centre today. The new facility is based around 20 miles from Lyon, in the town of Quentin Fallavier, and the wholesaler says its incorporation will reduce transport costs for French customers and guarantee faster delivery. The company’s physical presence is viewed as part of Heuver’s vision for the French market.

Sales of Trelleborg agricultural tyres in the Australian original equipment and replacement markets will benefit from Trelleborg Wheel Systems’ acquisition of Armstrong Tyres, an agricultural segment service and distribution company. Trelleborg has signed an agreement to purchase the Australian firm for an undisclosed sum, and the transaction is expected to be finalised in the second quarter of 2015.

In conjunction with its Italian car and truck tyre distributor, Farnese, Sailun Tyres has confirmed it will have a 96 square metre island stand at the 2015 Autopromotec Show. Located in Hall 15, the Sailun stand (stand E18) will feature the whole range of existing passenger car and truck tyres. In addition company representatives suggest there will be “some new surprise packages!”

Vipal Rubber has announced that it is launching a new pre-cured tread for use on drive axle fitment tyres in the “highway” segment. Known as the DV-RT4, the name means it is designed by Vipal – “DV” and is for use in the drive axle, highway segment – “RT”. According to the Brazilian based retreading manufacturer, The DV-RT4 is designed for “those looking for more efficiency and profitability in highway cargo transport operations”.

Following a successful Autozum in Austria between 21 and 24 January Sailun is likely to give its Atrezzo ZSR tyre its Italian debut at Autopromtec in May. According to Sailun, the UHP-orientated Atrezzo ZSR was the main focus of the company’s show-stand earlier this year, but the Shandong Province, China-based tyre manufacturer also exhibited other passenger car and light truck patterns too.

ChemChina’s chairman, Ren Jianxin, has publically reiterated his and his company’s commitment to completing its proposed takeover of Pirelli. Speaking to the Financial Times, Ren quoted a Chinese proverb and explained: “…It means that one must do everything in one’s power to facilitate a marriage. We are hoping that all the pieces can come together for our wonderful marriage with Pirelli.”

Shandong Linglong Tire has appointed John Hagan as chief operating officer of its Americas division. Previously, Hagan was national vice president for Kumho Tires USA, which he joined in 2013. Hagan brings with him 20 years of tyre industry experience. In addition to working for Kumho, he has held positions with Toyo Tires USA and Pirelli North America.

Apollo Tyres has been named as a Hungary ‘Investor of the Year 2014’ under the Largest Greenfield Investment of the Year category. The award is instituted by the Hungarian Investment Promotion Agency (HIPA) and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade. The winners were announced during its third annual award ceremony held in Pesti Vigado in Budapest.
