Michelin buys Brazilian two-wheel tyre maker
The Michelin Group has acquired Levorin, a Brazilian manufacturer of bicycle and motorcycle tyres. Levorin is a family business which was founded in 1943 by Hercules Levorin. It specializes in the production of tyres for the commuter segment in Brazil. In 2015 Levorin had an annual turnover of 135 million euros and employs 2,000 people at its two plants in Sao Paulo and Manaus.

Unimax Ltd., Point S master franchisee for Canada, has announced the creation of Distribution Stox, a new company that specializes in distributing tyres and accessories for cars and vans throughout Canada. Distribution Stox has been founded from the merger of the wholesale activities of Unimax and of three of its shareholders-members (Distribution RT, Distribution DSP and Distribu-Pneus). This new Canadian tyre distributor has more than 300 employees, 19 distribution centres and more than 100 delivery vehicles. The company offers products and services to auto repair shops, tyre retailers and car dealers in Canada.

America’s Car Museum (ACM) and the North American International Auto Show (NAIAS) have announced that Boston will be the starting point of “The Drive Home II: The Heritage Run” – an 11-day, 2,150 mile winter road rally, from December 28 to January 7, concluding at the opening of the North American International Auto Show. The Drive Home II (TDH II) will feature ACM’s 1957 Chevrolet Nomad, 1961 Chrysler 300G and 1966 Ford Mustang, all of which completed the first “The Drive Home” in early 2016, from the Museum’s headquarters in Tacoma, Washington to Detroit.

Truck/bus radial production reaches 10M mark at JK Tyre
Radialisation of the truck tyre segment in India has been a major subject over the past decade, and JK Tyre and Industries Limited considers itself the “undisputed leader” in this field. The tyre maker produced its first truck and bus radial in 1999 and currently holds the capacity to produce 3.5 million units per annum. On 22 August, the 10 millionth radial truck tyre produced rolled off the line at the company’s Vikrant plant in Mysuru (Mysore).

Aeolus is set to showcase the first tyres in its new NEO series, while also presenting a range of Transace tyres for light commercial vehicles and vans at IAA 2016. Both Aeolus and Heuver have recently celebrated their 50th anniversaries and for over a decade, they have worked together to claim an important place in the European truck and trailer sector. But, partly due to the takeover of Pirelli, this position will no doubt be reinforced in the coming years.

Steady economic growth and largescale investment in construction projects has opened up new opportunities for the recycling industry in Poland, according to recycling machinery firm Eldan. According to the company, inquiries to Eldan Recycling show that an increasing number of companies want a piece of the valuable recycling cake: “The past five years we have noticed a steady increase in requests from Poland” says Toni Reftman managing director at Eldan Recycling. “Within cable recycling we have noticed an increase in both quotes and orders for small and medium capacity systems, as well as for solutions for further recovery of fine copper from insulation. Also within tyre recycling we notice a trend in further improving the end-product. A further cleaned steel fraction with a density of up to 0.7 is very desirable with European steel works.”
