In its fifth annual survey the Japanese technology company Asahi Kasei asked car users in four major automotive markets (Germany, the United States, China, and Japan) about brand loyalty and key motivators for buying electric vehicles (EVs). The results suggest tightening competition, new manufacturers entering the markets, and – perhaps as a result – “brand loyalty is wavering worldwide”.

According to government information and local media reports from the USA, a significant fraction of the 1,300-strong workforce at the Bridgestone tyre plant in Des Moines, Iowa clocked off for the final time last Friday. Exactly how many is unclear: State department Iowa Workforce Development reports that 89 workers were scheduled to be laid off on 5 July; while broadcaster KCCI Des Moines says that all 216 of Bridgestone’s planned layoffs at the site took place that day.

In 2023, the overseas market has become essential for Chinese-listed tyre companies to increase revenue and profits. According to statistics from Tyrepress China, the overseas revenue of Sentury, Sailun, Jiangsu General, Prinx Chengshan, Triangle, and Doublestar in 2023 was higher than revenue in the Chinese domestic market. Aeolus, Linglong, and Guizhou Tyre have higher domestic market revenue.

At the end of June 2024, the first Nexen InnoForum was held at the Allianz Stadium in Turin in cooperation with Juventus FC. The event, organized as a dealer conference for direct retailers from all over Italy, reportedly “marked a milestone in the partnership between Nexen Tire and Juventus, which started almost a year ago”. The dealer conference attracted a total of over 70 participants from all over Italy.

A few days after we published details of Nokian Tyres’ progress and timeline for its Romania tyre factory, company representatives confirmed that the Oradea plant produced its first tyre on 1 July 2024. “The milestone was reached as planned, and the building project is progressing in budget and on schedule for commercial tyre production to start in early 2025”, Nokian officials said in a statement.
