West European trailer demand hits high
The West European Trailer Market had the third highest level of new trailer registrations ever, surpassed only by the figures for 2007 and 2008 before the GFC. However, there, there was a distinct weakening of the market in the second half of the year and Denmark, France, Germany, Italy and Spain were all less buoyant markets at the end of the year than they were in mid-2016.

The US Department of Commerce previously determined that these imported tyres are subsidised and are sold in the United States at less than fair value.

IUCN study: Micro tyre waste a major source of ocean pollution
According to a study published by environmental network the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN), tiny plastic particles from tyres and other products such as synthetic clothing could contribute up to 31 per cent of the 9.5 million tonnes of plastic released into the ocean each year. The report suggests that tyre waste generated by abrasion during use accounts for 28.3 per cent of these primary microplastics. Tyre particles and other waste reach the ocean through road runoff, the path that 66 per cent of microplastics are said to take on their journey to the ocean.

Indian manufacturer Ceat Tyres is establishing a tyre factory in Bangladesh, according to local news source BDNews24. The Mumbai-based parent company of Ceat, RPG Group, has reportedly signed a joint venture agreement with AK Khan to set up the plant with an initial investment of $67 million.

Now the 3PMSF (Three-Peak Mountain Snowflake) tyre symbol is linked under ECE-109 R Annex 10 to retreads, this measurement is said to say “far more than the classic M+S based on classifications devised by the manufacturers” about a retread’s winter performance.

January proved a positive start to the year for new car registrations in the European Union, with the market growing 10.2 per cent year on year. A total of 1,170,220 cars were registered in the EU last month; among the major markets, Spain (+10.7%), France (+10.6%), Germany (+10.5%) and Italy (+10.1%) recorded very strong performances in January, while the UK passenger car market also grew, albeit at more modest rate, increasing 2.9 per cent year-on-year to 174,564 units.
