Cooper Tire Tupelo, Clarksdale plants gain environmental quality recognition
The Mississippi Department of Environmental Quality (MDEQ) has recognised Cooper Tire’s Tupelo and Clarksdale, Mississippi plants as members of its environmental stewardship enHance initiative. A voluntary programme consisting of three-year membership terms, the enHance initiative, which stands for “envision heightened awareness nurturing conservation and environmental excellence,” recognises committed environmental leaders in Mississippi that put in place environmental initiatives beyond those that are required.

Munich-based recovered carbon black (rCB) manufacturer Pyrolyx has signed two agreements that will advance plans to construct a rCB plant in Terre Haute, Indiana, USA. The company has signed a multi-year supply agreement in the US with an unnamed masterbatch manufacturer that calls for Pyrolyx to supply rCB sourced from end-of-life tyres for use in colourants, special effects and additives that go into masterbatch. The deal involves securing long-term supply with a price advantage, Pyrolyx said.

Belarusian OTR tyre manufacturer is reportedly discussing the establishment of a joint venture with Japanese tyremaker Yokohama. According to the local Belarusian Telegraph Agency (BelTA), talks were held during a visit from a delegation of Yokohamas executives led by chairman and representative member of the board Tadanobu Nagumo. BelTA cited representatives of Belarusian state petrochemical concern Belneftekhim as its source.

Cooper launches ‘Tread Wisely’ mobile app
Cooper Tire & Rubber Company has launched the new Tread Wisely mobile app. Designed to promote tyre and vehicle safety among teens and young adults, the app was created the app in partnership with the National Organizations for Youth Safety (NOYS). Cooper says it empowers young drivers by putting safety information, how-to videos and unique features directly into their hands when and where they need it most. The app is free and available for download from the App Store (iOS) or Google Play Store (Android).

Yokohama-sponsored Chelsea look forward to FA Cup, Far East tour
Following the team’s 5-1 win in the top versus bottom clash against Sunderland, Chelsea FC lifted the Premier League trophy in front of a packed crowd of 42,000 at Stamford Bridge. Chelsea also became the first club to secure 30 top-flight victories in a 38-game season, giving them their fifth Premier League title, the first since Yokohama tyres became their official shirt partner in 2015.

Kenda presenting three products, marketing campaign at Autopromotec
Kenda is presenting three “strong quality products”, specifically developed for the European market at Autopromotec: the Emera A1, the Komendo Winter and Wintergen 2. For Kenda, who were also at the 2015 Show, this will be the second appearance at the Autopromotec. After the successful implementation of the Focus on Europe strategy, Kenda has launched the Emera A1, an ultra-high performance tyre which does not have to fear any comparisons with the established competition. Independent tests from the Finnish organization Test World have demonstrated the tyre’s handling characteristics. With a total score of 8.3 it achieved a place in the upper midfield.

Transport Canada has recalled certain Hercules All Trac A/T light truck and SUV tyres. The recall covers six sizes of the tyres, manufactured between 2007 and 2011. The recall is a repeat of a 2015 notice affecting 10,000 tyres. However, because the rate of recovery for the recall is low, Transport Canada has opted to repeat the communication.

Sensing Core is designed to detect road conditions, tyre load and other information by analyzing the wheel speed signals that are generated by the rotation of the tyres. Sumitomo says the technology will play a role in the advancement of autonomous vehicle technology.
