US-based truck service and tyre care chain Speedco now has a new owner following the finalisation of its acquisition by Love’s Travel Stops & Country Stores. Previously owned by Bridgestone Americas, the Speedco network contains more than 52 outlets across the USA; its acquisition means the number of Love’s-operated tyre service and lube facilities climbs to more than 320.

Maxxis will be using next week’s EICMA event to treat its fans with a sneak peak at its latest tyre innovations. The tyre manufacturer will be exhibiting plans to introduce its latest ATV and motorcycle tyres to the market. It will also be announcing “exciting new [OE] plans in the pipeline”, and will also be joined by a newly crowned world champion.

The tyre is designed for such models as the Ford Transit and Ram Pro Master, vehicles which have become increasingly popular for all types of urban service and delivery fleets. The segment opportunities have expanded into consumer markets as the modern full size van for camping, luxury conversions and group transportation. Atturo says the extension of its range for this category is a “natural complement to the brand’s dedication to the light truck market segment.”

With new factories in Europe and now also the US Nexen Tire is growing in terms of global production capacity. However, the firm is also investing in developing its brand, especially in terms of football sponsorship. Recently Tyres & Accessories looked into how the company is combining the two in order to meet its goal of entering the global top 10 by 2025. In 1976 Kettering Tyres paid local football club Kettering Town FC to print its logo on the front of the team shirt. The move caused ructions in what was then known as the first division and didn’t last long, but it did set a precedent for sponsorship that went to the next level this year. 41 years later, shirt sponsorship in the English Premier League (called Football League First Division back then), which brought in £226.5 million in sponsor revenues during the 2016-17 season, is very big business.

Nexen Tire has announced that its partnership with Manchester City Football Club (Man City) has been extended to include matches of the Carabao Cup tournament. This is the first time in the history of the English Football League (EFL) Cup that markings on football team jerseys are allowed, and as official partner on the Manchester City jerseys, the Nexen Tire logo will appear on the left sleeve of the Manchester City team equipment, which will be worn during the Carabao Cup matches.

CDG-ONE Srl, the tyre distributor owned by Segema S.p.A. (Magri Gomme Group) has reached a milestone in the expansion of Kwik Fit in Italy. The two companies launched a partnership to introduce Kwik Fit, the largest automotive service and repair company in the UK and Holland, into Italy in March 2016. Now, at the end of October, the 10th centre has begun operations under the Kwik Fit brand.

The Ronal Group has run a production and administration facility in the Aragón region of north-eastern Spain since 1983. The foundation stone for the latest plant was laid in February 2016.

In 2012 the EU introduced plans to support consumers with better information about a tyre’s noise, wet-braking and rolling resistance performance. Since then, Japanese, South Korean and US variants have been either mooted or implemented. However, the world’s largest tyre market (China), is also close to releasing its own labelling system – or should that be systems? Tyres & Accessories saw two labelling variants during the recent Tire+ exhibition in Shanghai and discussed the subject with a number of firms exhibiting there.
