Linglong Tire setting up firm for dandelion rubber industrialisation
As Linglong Tire notes, China imports more than 80 per cent of the natural rubber its manufacturers use. The company views rubber sourced from dandelions as a potential strategic raw material in the coming years, and in order to promote the industrialisation of dandelion rubber, it plans to invest RMB 30 million (£3.4 million) to set up a new company. The tentative name for this firm is Linglong Dandelion Science and Technology Development Company.

Bridgestone Corporation today announced it has established PT. Bridgestone Mining Solutions Indonesia (BMSI) from 9 November 2017. BMSI integrates the Bridgestone Corporation Jakarta Representative Office, which provides maintenance services for tyres for construction and mining vehicles, with PT. Bridgestone Engineered Products Indonesia (BSEA-IN), a subsidiary in Indonesia that sells conveyor belts for mining applications. As part of this integration, BSEA-IN has been officially renamed as BMSI.

According to a market research report by BIS Research, titled Global Electric Vehicles Market - Analysis and Forecast (2017-2026), the demand for electric cars is increasing rapidly, with the global stock numbers crossing 2 million in 2016 after crossing 1 million in 2015. The surge is attributed to the substantial amount of investments made by the automobile manufacturers for the research, development, and deployment of electric vehicles. Mass production prospects have also led to a decline in the prices of the key components such as electric batteries, and technologies such as regenerative braking. In addition, the governments of different nations are providing tax benefits, and subsidies to fuel the production of EVs. The government bodies are actively promoting the usage of electric vehicles in order to reduce high emission levels.

The latest figures from the US Tire Manufacturers Association (USTMA) show tyre shipments will fall about 0.5 per cent to 316.8 million units. The drop is attributed to an anticipated decline in OE passenger tyre shipments to 3.4 million units. Replacement tyre shipments are expected to increase by 0.8 million units over the 2016 total.

The award is a bronze 2017 Epica Award in the online campaigns – automotive category, and was given to Hankook Tire Sweden for a short video highlighting the over-representation of men, and younger men in particular, in Sweden’s road accident statistics. The campaign is titled Kör som en kvinna, which in English means ‘Drive like a woman’.
