VMI launches new website
In early January VMI launched a new company website. According to the tyre manufacturing machinery maker, the new site is entirely styled in the firm’s new corporate branding. It is also said to features “more information on the VMI products and services”. Company representatives explained that the site has been designed to give “an improved browser experience with easy navigation and is furthermore optimized for mobile usage”.

Apollo Tyres lays foundation stone for 7th factory
After opening its new European factory last year, Apollo Tyres is now focusing on expanding its manufacturing footprint at home. A ceremony was held today to lay the foundation stone of the tyre maker’s fifth plant in India and seventh facility worldwide. The new factory is located in Chinnapanduru, Andhra Pradesh state, and is expected to enter operation in mid-2020. Apollo Tyres is investing close to Rs 18 billion (£209.4 million) in the first phase of the new plant project.

Point S growing in SE Asia, opens flagship centre
Point S has opened what it calls its flagship retail outlet for the Southeast Asia region. The centre in Petaling Jaya is the tyre retailing group’s third branded site in Malaysia – Point S entered the country with the opening of its first retail centre there last October. The 20,000 square foot (1,850 square metre facility) has eight service bays, a showroom featuring a Pirelli Performance Centre and BFGoodrich corner, and the site will also act as a terminal for car rental company Gocar Malaysia as well as for Uber competitor Grab Malaysia.

The transaction is subject to customary approvals.

The customer is a global manufacturer of tyres and rubber applications and this order relates to industrial tyres”, says Thomas Sörensson, CEO of Enviro.

GRI installs first Marangoni Machine in Sri Lanka
GRI reports that it is the first industrial tyre manufacturer in Sri Lanka to employ the benefits of the latest model of Marangoni Alpha Agrifast Italy. According to the company, this machine is “a compact, user friendly and advanced extruder server that is interfaced to tyre building bay drums for producing components such as tread base, tread cap, sidewalls all with joint less, in real time with the highest degree of accuracy and at high speed”. This machine is to be utilized at GRI’s latest state-of-the-art factory in Sri Lanka, set to commence production in January 2018. This brand-new factory will be the largest in Sri Lanka dedicated to produce specialty tyres and the first to produce radial agriculture tyres.

Since 2014, new cars in the EU need to be equipped with Tire Pressure Monitoring Systems (TPMS). There are two types of systems, hardware based direct TPMS (dTPMS) and software based iTPMS (something that was previously commonly known as in-direct TPMS). The purpose of the study was to investigate whether both types of TPMS serve their purpose, lead to properly inflated tyres, hence reducing CO2-emission and increasing traffic safety.
