While US President Donald Trump may be talking up the benefits of a trade way, after reviewing certain tariffs on passenger and light truck (PLT) tyres imported from China, the US Department of Commerce (DOC) has adjusted some of its antidumping and countervailing rates. Reductions in the antidumping tariffs for the period from 27 January 2015 through 31 July 2016 include the rate for Giti Tire dropping from 30.74 per cent to 1.5 per cent and Qingdao Sentury Tire dropping from 25.84 per cent to 4.41 per cent.

Friday 30 March is the deadline set for a formal consensus regarding the sale of a 45 per cent share in the tyre maker to China’s Qingdao Doublestar Tire for KRW 646.3 billion (£421.7 million).

A new joint venture has been set up between Michelin and industrial products distributor CFAO for importing and distributing premium and quality segment tyres into Kenya and Uganda. CFAO holds a 51 per cent share in the new entity and Michelin the remaining 49 per cent. The joint venture’s governance is equally divided between CFAO and Michelin.

It’s only been four months since the foundation stone for Continental’s new tyre factory in Rayong, Thailand was laid, yet good progress has already been made.
