During July, Rubber Conversion’s Life Green Vulcan project was selected by the Italian Ministry of the Environment and Energy at the top of its LIFE Programme for the Environment and Climate Action. Life Green Vulcan demonstrated the use of recycled rubber for high-profile automotive applications. Specifically, Stellantis has industrialized spring pads containing 20 per cent recycled rubber, while Bridgestone has industrialized a car tyre tread containing 10 per cent recycled rubber by weight.

Linglong Tire will continue its sponsorship deal with the Bundesliga club VfL Wolfsburg, starting with the club’s 2024/25 season-opening cup match at TuS Koblenz. VfL Wolfsburg are famously supported by Primary Partner Volkswagen, Europe’s largest automaker, out of whose sports club the team developed – one of the reasons the club is particularly attracting to the globalising Chinese tyre manufacturer, which is one of the club’s “Top-Partners”. In addition to the men’s team, Linglong will support the womens team of VfL Wolfsburg, reigning German Cup winners.

In the first half of 2024, Cheng Shin Rubber’s revenue was NT$48 billion (about RMB 10.6 billion; £1.16 billion; €1.35 billion). In the same period, the tyre manufacturer’s net profit was NT$4.58 billion (about RMB 1 billion; £110 million; €130 million).

ZC Rubber is launching three tyres from its Westlake Gen II truck range at IAA Transportation 2024 in Hanover – the WAM2, WSL2, and WDL2. According to the company, all three tyres exhibit “a substantial improvement in rolling resistance compared to their predecessors”. They are also and are certified with M+S (Mud and Snow) and 3PMS (Three-Peak Mountain Snowflake) ratings.

Apollo Tyres Ltd is recalling 4,300 tyres supplied to its distributor partners in Europe (3,540 units), Turkey (266 units), the USA (194 units), and the United Arab Emirates (26 units). The remainder are still in the tyremaker’s own warehouses. According to the company, the recall covers 28 different passenger car product lines, across both the Apollo and Vredestein tyres brands.

The European Commission has approved Romanian state aid worth 99.5 million euros (RON 495.2 million) to support the construction of Nokian Tyres’ new zero-CO2 tyre factory in Oradea, Romania – the first such factory in the world. Nokian Tyres says its total investment in the project is worth 650 million euros. Construction started in May 2023. Once completed the factory will produce approximately 6 million tyres per year with the potential for future expansion. The first tyre was produced on 1 July 2024. Commercial production is due to start in early 2025.

The organisers of TyreXpo Asia are warning that exhibitor space is getting limited for the 12-14 March 2025 event in Singapore (Marina Bay Sands Convention Centre). Informa Markets will follow up its 2024 Show in Bangkok and last year’s international tyre market exhibition in Singapore in Halls D-F, rather than A-C, creating an additional 3,000 sqm of exhibition space, a move it says it made “due to high demand.”

In the U. S., J. B. Hunt Transport Services, Inc., Bridgestone Americas and Kodiak Robotics, Inc., have celebrated an ongoing collaboration that has surpassed 50,000 autonomous long-haul trucking miles, incorporating Kodiak autonomous trucks to ship Bridgestone passenger car tyres between South Carolina and Dallas. Since launching in January, the autonomous route has been driven with no accidents and achieved 100 per cent on-time pick-up and delivery, according to the companies.
