CEAT plans to invest US$500 million in new tyre factory
Indian tyre manufacturer Ceat is planning to invest around 40 billion rupees (£442.4 million; 499.8 million euros; $482 million) in the construction of a greenfield tyre manufacturing facility near Sriperumbudur, 40 kilometres west of Chennai. The Times of India reports that the Tamil Nadu cabinet met on Wednesday 27 June to “approve the new project and offered a structured incentive package for the unit, which when becomes operational in about a year, will directly employ 1,000 people”.

Volvo Buses has secured an order of 23 fully electric buses from public transport company Arriva in the Netherlands. The buses will operate in the city of Leiden in the province of South Holland. The order was signed June 28 at a ceremony in conjunction with the Volvo Ocean Race, which finished in the Hague this week. Deliveries will take place between Q1 and Q3 in 2019.

Under a joint venture contract signed on 22 June, thyssenkrupp Steel Europe will partner with Chinese companies to produce steel wheels, including lightweight hot-formed models, for the local automotive industry. China’s leading steel wheel manufacturer, Jingu Wheel, will hold a 51 per cent share in the joint venture, thyssenkrupp Steel Europe 34 per cent and Ansteel Iron and Steel Group 15 per cent. China’s competition authorities are now examining the tie-up, and thyssenkrupp anticipates the deal’s finalisation within the next few months.

A new track manufacturing plant is being set up in the USA to meet growing demand from agricultural and construction segment customers for Camso’s tracks and track systems. The 139,000 square foot (12,900 square metre) facility, located in Junction City, Kansas, is expected to open in January 2020. The increase in production capacity that will accompany the plant’s opening will enable Camso to shorten its delivery lead times.
