Reports: Michelin’s Camso takeover includes Loadstar
Loadstar was founded by a Belgian investor and Jinasena, a Colombo-based engineering group. The firm has a plant in Ekala, north of Sri Lankas capital Colombo. The business was renamed Camso Loadstar in 2015.

While natural rubber production may have risen 0.2 per cent in May 2018 to 35,789 tonnes compared with 35,726 tonnes in April 2018, year-on-year production decreased 18.6 per cent.

Cambodian rubber exports rose 21 per cent during the first half of 2018, according to the Cambodian Ministry of Agriculture. The data shows that local producers exported 84,419 tonnes of rubber during the first six months of this year, an increase of 14,376 tonnes compared to a year earlier. Total rubber cultivation was also up, at 436,299 hectares.

Stockpiles of scrap tyres in the United States of America have decreased 94 per cent since the U.S. Tire Manufacturers Association (USTMA) instigated efforts to re-purpose scrap tyres, reports the trade association. While scrap tyre stockpiles in the USA contained more than a billion tyres in total in 1991, by 2017 these stockpiles had reduced to just 60 million tyres.

Bridgestone Americas has announced a US$12 million investment that will expand production to include popular off-the-road (OTR) tyre sizes at its Bloomington, Illinois facility. The plant will produce multiple sizes and patterns in 29-, 33- and 35-inch OTR tyres, which until now have only been produced by Bridgestone in Japan.

Scandinavian Enviro Systems has signed a HoA (Heads of Agreement) with the German company DHF Development to facilitate the establishment of one or more recycling plants in The Middle East together with Industrial Development and Renovation Organisation of Iran (IDRO). The agreement is valid for a period of three months. The deal was signed on 6 July 2018.

On 13 July, the European Commission announced its decision not to impose anti-subsidy measures during its ongoing investigation into these products. This decision reflects the Commission’s practice of not simultaneously imposing provisional anti-dumping and anti-subsidy measures prior to reaching a final decision on the matter.

The Sri Lanka Association of Manufacturers and Exporters of Rubber products (SLAMERP) has praised the USA’s decision to revoke the countervailing duty imposed upon off-the-road tyres imported from Sri Lanka. Commenting upon the ruling made by the US Court of International Trade on 11 July, SLAMERP notes that it “expresses confidence” in the growth of Sri Lankan exports to the USA.

According to information published by Pirelli and based upon regional association and third-party data, the European car tyre market grew six per cent year-on-year in May 2018. Overall growth occurred courtesy of strong performance within the aftermarket, which during the month was ten per cent higher than a year earlier; the market for 18-inch and larger sizes were up 20 per cent. The original equipment market in Europe declined five per cent year-on-year in May.
