Kordsa buys US firms Fabric Development Inc and Textile Products Inc
Kordsa has spent roughly US$100 million buying Fabric Development Inc (FDI) and Textile Products Inc. (TPI), which provide advanced composite materials to the commercial aviation industry. With these acquisitions Kordsa aims to follow the same path that led to leadership in tyre reinforcement technologies.

European FinTyre Distribution Limited (EfTD) has appointed Massimiliano Messina as chief financial officer of the group. Messina role makes him responsible for optimising the financial resources of the group and securing the synergy between its different companies. In addition, he will coordinate the merger and acquisition activity with the support of the management team and will report directly to Mauro Pessi, CEO of the group.

Every year, US-based organisation The Tire Industry Association (TIA) inducts new worthies into its Hall of Fame. As mentioned on Friday, this year the TIA welcomes two from the industry to its Hall of Fame, and off-highway tyre specialist BKT is honoured that its chairman and managing director, Arvind Poddar is one of the pair selected for this accolade. Poddar will be officially inducted into the Hall of Fame at the Tire Industry Honors Awards Ceremony, which will be held in Las Vegas on 29 October prior to the opening of the 2018 SEMA Show.

The results of joint research projects undertaken between Yokohama Rubber and two universities in Thailand since 2013 were announced at The International Polymer Conference of Thailand 2018 (PCT-8) in June. The joint research projects were conducted with researchers at Mahidol University and Prince of Songkla University and focused upon ensuring stable, reliable supplies of natural rubber.

Linglong Tire is examining tyre pyrolysis technology and its application to waste tyre recycling. The tyre maker shares that it organised a conference on the subject at its headquarters in Zhaoyuan, China on 24 July, an event attended by 13 academics and experts from Shanghai Jiao Tong University, Sichuan University, Zhejiang University and Beijing University of Technology.

With the purchase of 32 hectares of land in the Romanian city of Timişoara, Continental aims to expand its storage capacity and optimise the overall cost of its logistics. The land was purchased from the UMT and Prompt groups for an undisclosed sum and is located close to the Continental tyre factory within the city.

A fire broke out within the Continental factory in Hannover-Stöcken, Germany yesterday. In a news alert, the city of Hannover shares that the fire began in a rubber powder grinding plant. The incident was attended by 52 firefighters and 19 fire engines, and together with the factory’s own firefighting team they were able to extinguish the fire quickly. No injuries were reported, and according to the news alert, Continental’s safety concept “functioned smoothly” during the incident.

Thanks to an internal document sent to EU member states and national tyre trade associations, we now have a clearer idea about what form the European Commission’s final anti-dumping measures against Chinese truck and bus tyres may take. The Commission favours a system of fixed, per-tyre duties similar to the preliminary duties introduced in May; the silver lining for Chinese tyre makers is that it has recommended these duties be reduced.
